Home and Away Confirms Tragic Death in Explosive 2025 Season Finale
Home and Away fans are bracing for heartbreak as Seven confirms that this year’s season finale will end in tragedy — with one major character losing their life following a catastrophic train derailment.
The shocking three-part finale, airing Wednesday, November 19, promises to deliver one of Summer Bay’s most devastating disasters in years.

A Love Triangle on the Edge
In the lead-up to the finale, Jo (Maddison Brown) finds herself torn between two men — her ex, Eddie Shepherd (Stephen Madsen), and new flame Tane Parata (Ethan Browne).
After reconnecting with Eddie following years apart, Jo’s feelings are thrown into chaos. The pair had broken up after Jo’s mother Kristina’s (Fiona Noonan) death, and Eddie has now returned just as Jo finally began moving on with Tane.

While her father David (Jeremy Lindsay Taylor) secretly hopes Jo and Eddie will rekindle their romance, Jo is left struggling to choose between her past and her present.
“There’s so much water under the bridge between her and Eddie,” actress Maddison Brown told TV Week. “He was her first love, and the what ifs of their love story draw her back to him.”
The Train to Tragedy
The action intensifies when Remi (Adam Rowland) books Eddie a performance slot at the Off the Rails music festival in Broken Hill — more than 1,000km from Summer Bay.
Jo, seeking space from her emotional turmoil, decides to join Eddie for the trip, alongside Sonny (Ryan Bown), Lacey (Georgia Blizzard), Mackenzie (Emily Weir), Dana (Ally Harris), and Abigail (Hailey Pinto).
Unbeknownst to everyone, Justin (James Stewart) also boards the train — keeping his travel plans secret from Leah (Ada Nicodemou), who is struggling to cope with Theo’s (Matt Evans) death.
Leah, haunted by a dream in which Theo warned her that Justin was “already on the train,” races to the station in desperation. But as the party train leaves Summer Bay behind, fate is already in motion.

The Derailment
During the celebrations, Eddie appears ready to propose to Jo — finally making good on the proposal he once planned before their breakup. But just as he gets down on one knee, the train enters a dark tunnel.
Inside, a group of teens spray graffiti on the walls, unaware the train is speeding toward them. When they panic and flee, their bicycles are left strewn across the track.
The impact is immediate and horrifying — the engine derails, flipping over and dragging the carriages with it. Screams fill the tunnel as passengers are thrown violently from their seats.

One Will Not Survive
While details remain tightly under wraps, Home and Away producers have confirmed that one character will die in the aftermath of the derailment.
“We know someone dies, but we don’t know who,” Maddison Brown teased. “It’s one of the most emotional and intense finales we’ve ever filmed.”
With Jo, Eddie, Tane, Justin, Leah, and several other fan favourites involved in the chaos, speculation is already rampant among viewers. Could Eddie’s proposal end in tragedy? Will Leah’s dream warning come too late? Or will another life be claimed by the wreckage?
A Devastating End to 2025
This year’s finale marks Home and Away’s most ambitious event since the 2021 storm disaster, blending romance, tragedy, and emotional fallout in true Summer Bay style.
Fans will have to wait until Wednesday, November 19 at 7pm on Seven for answers — but one thing’s for sure: not everyone will make it home from Broken Hill.
