Two years after the heartbreaking loss of Johnny Ruffo, Home and Away legend Lynne McGranger has shared a moving tribute to her late friend and co-star, remembering the talented actor and singer as “gone too soon.”
Remembering a Bright Talent
Johnny Ruffo rose to fame on The X Factor Australia in 2011, where his charm, voice, and charisma won over millions. His success soon led him to Summer Bay, where he joined Home and Away as Chris Harrington — a fun-loving, mischievous character who quickly became a fan favourite.
In 2017, Johnny’s life took a devastating turn when he was diagnosed with brain cancer after being hospitalised for severe migraines. Doctors discovered a 7cm tumour, which was removed during emergency surgery.
Despite a period of remission, the cancer returned in 2020, and by August 2022, Johnny confirmed that the diagnosis was terminal. Through it all, he faced his illness with courage, humour, and gratitude — continuing to inspire fans around the world.
Lynne McGranger’s Heartfelt Tribute
On the second anniversary of Johnny’s passing, Lynne McGranger, who played Irene Roberts and shared many scenes with Johnny, posted a touching tribute on Instagram.
Alongside a photo of the two actors smiling and embracing on set, she wrote simply:
“Two years ago. Gone too soon my friend 💔”
The comment section quickly filled with condolences and shared memories from fans and colleagues alike.
One follower wrote: “Hard to believe it’s been two years. Gone but never forgotten.”

Johnny Ruffo passed away in November 2023, surrounded by his partner Tahnee Sims, family, and close friends. His family’s statement at the time reflected the love he shared with everyone he met:
