Mark your calendars! Chicago Fire will return with its winter premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026 at 9/8c, immediately following Chicago Med. NBC is once again kicking off the year strong by bringing the full One Chicago lineup back on the first Wednesday of January.

This quick turnaround is consistent with the franchise’s typical schedule — NBC traditionally wastes no time restarting its biggest dramas after the holidays.

Why the Fall Finale Came Earlier Than Usual

One thing is unusual this year: the fall finales arrived earlier than expected.

Typically, new One Chicago episodes air through late November and sometimes into early December. But 2025’s schedule shifted due to NBC’s decision to air a special broadcast of Wicked on Nov. 19. The rare move — airing a major theatrical film on broadcast so soon after release — is reportedly tied to boosting awareness for the movie’s sequel, which hit theaters on Nov. 20.
