Jocelyn Hudon Calls Chicago Fire a “Unicorn Job” as She Opens Up About Nerves, Dreams, and Joining One Chicago’s Tight-Knight Cast
A Dream Gig in the One Chicago Universe
The stars of Chicago Fire know how rare it is to become part of a franchise with such longevity and impact. That was the energy during a recent episode of the Official One Chicago Podcast, hosted by longtime Chicago P.D. producer Brian Luce. Actors Hanako Greensmith and Jocelyn Hudon discussed the chemistry on set, the joy of working together, and why working on the show feels like a career milestone.
Hudon didn’t hold back her feelings. She called Chicago Fire her “unicorn job.” She knew from day one that landing a role on a hit series was something special. Now deep into Season 14, Chicago Fire remains the longest-running installment of the One Chicago franchise, and that history is not lost on her.
“There’s only going to be one of these,” she explained. “I’m going to stay here as long as they’ll let me.”
From Guest Star to Series Regular
Hudon joined the series in Season 12 as paramedic Lizzie Novak, appearing as a recurring guest star. She hoped from the beginning that her role would turn into something more permanent. It did. She was promoted to series regular in Season 13, fulfilling the dream she tried hard not to jinx.
However, she admitted that the excitement came with enormous pressure. Hudon said she was terrified of making mistakes on set. Her inner monologue during filming was simple: “Do not mess up.” She joked that she spent most of Season 12 “basically pooping myself” from nerves.
The Challenge of Joining an Established Family
Hudon quickly realized she was stepping into a cast with more than a decade of shared memories and work. The actors knew each other, trusted each other, and moved like a true team. That intimidated her at first.
“You know these people have been here for so long,” she said. “They’re all friends. They all know what they’re doing. I just tried not to mess up the whole time.”
Even so, she found support, encouragement, and a team that wanted her there. That’s why she calls it the job of a lifetime.
When Chicago Fire Returns
