Yellowstone Spinoff Shuts Down Dallas Street for Major ‘Dutton Ranch’ Shoot

Dallas Becomes Chicago for a Day

Fans of the ever-growing Yellowstone universe witnessed a rare sight on Monday morning. The production of Dutton Ranch, the franchise’s next chapter, shut down a busy street in the Dallas Arts District to film scenes set in downtown Chicago. Cameras rolled from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., transforming Crockett Street between Ross Avenue and the Hall Arts Center parking entrance into a Windy City backdrop.Yellowstone's Rip and Beth: Relationship Timeline From Pilot to Finale - Business Insider

Traffic control was strict. According to a plan obtained by The Dallas Morning News, there were temporary closures on Ross Avenue between North Pearl and Leonard streets while production was underway. Trucks, trailers, and crew vehicles lined nearby blocks. One crew member walked past carrying a deer prop, while dress shirts and tailored suits hung across clothing racks waiting for extras.

A Chicago Scene With Tight Secrecy

Details about the storyline remain limited. Casting materials described Monday’s sequence as a “downtown Chicago scene.” Legacy Casting, which frequently recruits extras for Taylor Sheridan projects, posted a notice seeking actors for Nov. 17 shoots under the name Rio Paloma, a placeholder title used for Dutton Ranch. Extras needed to “own their own really nice suit,” hinting at corporate environments or high-stakes negotiations.

While Dallas and Chicago differ in layout, skyline density, and geography, the magic of television erases those distinctions. With the right angles, props, and editing, a Texas street becomes another chapter in the Dutton legacy. The base camp for the production of "Dutton Ranch" can be seen near KPMG Plaza on Nov. 17, 2025 in downtown Dallas.

Where ‘Dutton Ranch’ Picks Up After Yellowstone

The spinoff continues after the violent end of Yellowstone Season 5. Patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner) dies under suspicious circumstances. Though initially believed to be suicide, it’s later revealed that he was murdered in a planned hit. His daughter Beth (Kelly Reilly) suspects her brother Jamie (Wes Bentley), and their bitter feud ends in tragedy when Beth kills him.

Dutton Ranch follows Beth, Rip (Cole Hauser), and Carter (Finn Little) as they begin a new life on a different Montana ranch. The series promises new power struggles and the harsh reality of survival. Deadline reports the logline:
“With tough times and stiff competition, Beth and Rip do what they must to survive, all while ensuring Carter becomes the man he’s supposed to be.”The base camp for the production of "Dutton Ranch" near KPMG Plaza on Nov. 17, 2025 in downtown Dallas.

Sheridan Expands His Texas Production Empire

Dallas is only one piece of Taylor Sheridan’s fast-expanding North Texas production footprint. After building a regional studio hub this year, several of his Paramount+ titles — including Lioness and Landman — have filmed in the area. Now, Dutton Ranch joins that slate, deepening Sheridan’s imprint on the state where he was raised.
