Cheryl Fergison share heartbreaking news
A Life-Altering Moment
EastEnders favorite Cheryl Fergison, best known for her role as Heather Trott, has revealed how her life has changed since suffering a stroke earlier this year. Now 60, the beloved actress opened up to fans about her journey back to independence and her determination to reclaim her health—and her voice.
The stroke struck suddenly in May, leaving Cheryl unable to walk or talk. But now, four months later, she’s making inspiring progress.

“I Can Walk to the Shop Again”
In a recent social media post, Cheryl gave a heartfelt update:
“I can walk with a stick now from the stroke, which is brilliant. I can walk a certain amount of way before I get puffed out.”
She proudly shared that she can walk as far as her local corner shop—a small but deeply meaningful milestone. It was there that a fan encouraged Cheryl to adapt her memoir, Behind the Scenes, into a TV series or film—something she admitted she’d “never thought of” before.
Cheryl now hopes production companies might bring her life story to the screen.
“Let’s get Behind the Scenes by Cheryl Fergison in front of the camera for something for you lot to watch.”

Diagnosed by Her Son
Cheryl credits her son, Alex, with recognizing the early signs of her stroke. With his experience caring for elderly people, he acted fast—something that likely made a huge difference.
After being rushed to hospital in Blackpool, Cheryl began intensive rehabilitation. She worked to “retrain” her brain, relearning how to use her hands, regain balance, and walk again.
“It’s frustrating and makes you angry,” she admitted of the healing process. But her spirit remains unbroken.
A Career Built on Resilience
Beyond EastEnders, Cheryl has appeared in Little Britain, The IT Crowd, and Doctor Who. But off screen, she’s faced deep challenges—including womb cancer surgery in 2015. At that time, her friend and co-star Barbara Windsor stepped in to cover her medical and living expenses.
Cheryl has also spoken openly about financial hardship—performing in restaurants and relying on food banks during difficult times.
“It was shameful,” she reflected. “How could I have been earning that much and now I am here?”

A Message of Hope
Cheryl’s story is one of strength through adversity. Her recovery, her dreams for a screen adaptation, and her openness with fans show a woman determined to keep going—one step at a time.
