IS 6666 STILL ALIVE?! With Sheridan leaving Paramount soon, will the Texas spinoff rise — or has Jimmy’s future been left in limbo?

Is 6666 Still Happening?

Technically, yes — but with no clear production progress.
Paramount first announced 6666 in February 2021, envisioning it as another major pillar in Taylor Sheridan’s growing Yellowstone universe. However, there have been no concrete updates since 2022, when Paramount shifted the series from Paramount+ to Paramount Network, fueling speculation that it was being refocused for a more mainstream audience like Yellowstone itself.

Sheridan has not publicly shelved the project, but the lack of a cast, production timeline, or release window has many fans wondering if it’s indefinitely on hold — especially as newer spinoffs like Y: Marshals (premiering March 1, 2026), The Madison, and Beth & Rip’s series continue to move forward.Yellowstone 6666 Trailer - Paramount+, First Look, Release Date, Cast, Episode 1, Jefferson White - YouTube

🎥 What Would 6666 Be About?

The series would focus on the historic Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, where “the rule of law and the laws of nature merge” in a gritty world of world-class cowboys and unforgiving land. It would explore:

  • Elite horse breeding and livestock traditions

  • A deeper dive into modern cowboy life

  • Complex moral dynamics in rural America

Essentially, it was pitched as a Southern cousin to Yellowstone — just with more heat, dust, and raw cowboy culture.

👢 Who’s Supposed to Star?

The presumed lead is Jefferson White, returning as Jimmy Hurdstrom, who moved to the Four Sixes in Yellowstone Season 4. Jimmy’s journey — from rodeo-injured ranch hand to real-deal cowboy — seemed to serve as a backdoor pilot for 6666. In Season 5 Part 2, Jimmy returns to Yellowstone but reaffirms that Texas is now his home.

Other characters likely to appear:

  • Kathryn Kelly as Emily (Jimmy’s wife)

  • Jen Landon as Teeter (who took a job at the Four Sixes in the finale)

  • Taylor Sheridan as Travis (who has connections to the ranch through horse trading)

However, no cast has been officially announced.

🚧 Why the Delay?

Several key factors may explain the holdup:

  1. Taylor Sheridan’s Workload
Sheridan is juggling multiple series (1923, 1944, Y: Marshals, The Madison, and others), all of which demand heavy creative input — and he famously writes every episode himself.

  2. Sheridan’s NBCUniversal Deal
Sheridan has signed a five-year overall deal with NBCUniversal, beginning January 1, 2029. While he remains with Paramount through 2028, his shift in allegiance may be slowing down new launches under the Paramount banner.

  3. Internal Studio Restructuring
Paramount has been navigating corporate shifts, including potential mergers and major streaming strategy overhauls, which may deprioritize slower-moving projects like 6666.

🐎 So What’s Next?

While 6666 hasn’t been officially scrapped, all signs point to it being on indefinite hold — or at least delayed until Taylor Sheridan can give it the creative attention it deserves. According to longtime director Christina Voros, “We don’t know until we get the scripts… I think he’s left some doors open, and some doors I can’t tell if they’re locked or not yet.”
