Emmerdale Shock: Former Star Kelli Hollis Boycotts Soap After Daughter’s Exit
Kelli Hollis Speaks Out
Former Emmerdale actress Kelli Hollis has revealed she is no longer a regular viewer of the ITV soap. The 49-year-old star, who played Ali Spencer from 2011 to 2015, admitted she has been “boycotting” the show since her on-screen daughter Amelia Spencer, portrayed by Daisy Campbell, was written out.
Speaking to Manchester Evening News, Hollis confessed that watching the Dales has been difficult since the Spencer family disappeared. “I will be honest, I have been boycotting them a little while since they got rid of my daughter (Amelia Spencer). That is the Spencer clan gone now,” she said.
Although Hollis keeps in touch with her former co-stars, she admitted that dipping back into the series is tough: “I still have loads of friends there so I do dip in and out, but it is really hard to keep up with the soaps – I just don’t have the time.”
Fond Memories of the Spencer Family
Hollis played the mother of Sean and Amelia Spencer during her time in Emmerdale. Reflecting on her years in the soap, she described her best memories as working with her on-screen family. “The best memories are being with the family,” she shared warmly.
She recalled meeting Daisy Campbell for the first time when the actress was only six years old. “She had this little hair and her two front teeth missing,” Hollis said. “That was special, just being part of her growing up. Working with Alicia Eyo, who played Ruby Haswell, and the Spencer gang was brilliant. We still all speak regularly now.”
Hollis recently returned to the UK after spending over two years living in Thailand, but the affection she feels for her former Emmerdale family remains strong.
Daisy Campbell’s Painful Exit
Daisy Campbell, who played Amelia Spencer for 13 years, also spoke about the shock of her exit. The actress admitted she felt blindsided when her contract was not renewed. “When it’s been ripped away from you, because that’s what it genuinely felt like, it was so out of the blue – you do just get into a bit of a hole of, oh God, can I do this?” she told The Sun.
Campbell confessed that she was left devastated by the decision, explaining that she had given much of her childhood to the role. Despite the heartbreak, she described her time in Emmerdale as an honour and something she would never change.
The actress later told RadioTimes that filming her final episodes was an emotional experience. Amelia’s departure storyline saw her moving to Leicester with her daughter Esther following Tom King’s dramatic conviction. “It was so sad shooting those farewell scenes,” Campbell admitted.
The Future Beyond Emmerdale
Despite the shock of her departure, Campbell is already looking ahead. The actress has revealed plans to launch her own pilates studio, a project that promises to mark a new chapter in her life outside of soapland.
Meanwhile, Hollis stands firm on her decision to boycott the series in solidarity with her former on-screen daughter’s exit. Her words underline just how deeply the Spencer family resonated with cast and viewers alike.
Fans React to the Spencer Family’s Departure
The loss of Amelia and the wider Spencer family has left many viewers frustrated. For years, the Spencers were a vital part of Emmerdale’s tapestry, bringing warmth, family drama, and relatable storylines. Their absence has created a noticeable gap, and Hollis’s boycott highlights how strongly even former cast members feel about the change.
With Daisy Campbell moving on to new opportunities and Kelli Hollis reflecting fondly on her soap years, fans are left wondering if Emmerdale will ever bring the Spencers back. For now, their chapter has closed — but their impact remains unforgettable.
