What happened on Days of our Lives

At the hospital, Johnny talked to Tony about Theo’s condition. Tony told Johnny he was grateful for Johnny’s help with the company, but that he did not want to take over the CEO job. “I promised Anna I wouldn’t,” Tony explained. Johnny suggested EJ, but Tony argued that neither EJ nor Chad wanted the job. “Which leaves only you,” Tony said. Tony added that he had heard that Johnny had been enjoying the job.

“I admit, it felt very satisfying signing those papers to officially reclaim the company back for our family,” Johnny said. “That was spoken like a true DiMera,” Tony said. Johnny agreed to stay in the position. Anna arrived at the hospital as Johnny left, and she had a joyful reunion with Tony. “How is it that you spent all those weeks in a dusty old crypt, and you’re still the most handsome man I ever laid eyes on?” Anna asked. Tony grinned.

“And you, you’re still as beautiful as ever,” Tony countered. Anna told Tony about her frustration because no one had believed her when she had claimed that Tony had been kidnapped. Anna asked about Tony’s family, and Tony confirmed that everyone was recovering. Tony explained that the family needed to decide whether to keep Peter alive or not. Anna offered to kill Peter herself.

“The DiMeras have a long history of backstabbing and betrayal,” Tony noted. “Do they ever,” Anna muttered. Tony admitted that the siblings had bonded during their time in the crypt. “Who knows how long it will last?” Tony said. Anna asked Tony to hurry up with his familial responsibilities so that they could resume their vacation.

In Chanel and Johnny’s apartment, Chanel fussed over baby Trey. “You’re gonna be a big brother soon. Can you believe it? Because I honestly cannot,” Chanel whispered. When Johnny returned home, he told Chanel that there was no change in Theo’s condition. “But the doctors are optimistic. He’s improving,” Johnny confirmed. Chanel noted that Trey was still not well, but that she suspected it was just teething.

“And how are you feeling?” Johnny asked. Chanel confirmed that she still had not had any morning sickness, but she was still tired. Chanel asked Johnny if he was ready to step down from DiMera. “Actually, I can’t,” Johnny said. Chanel argued that there were plenty of options to take Johnny’s place, but he countered that no one wanted the job. Johnny stressed that the job was still a temporary gig.

“My family is not in danger any more. So no reason to not stick around and help out,” Johnny said. “I can think of a few reasons,” Chanel grumbled. Johnny promised that his focus was Chanel and their family. Johnny argued that the money would give them a nice nest egg. Johnny asked Chanel why she had not told him about her fear that her cancer had returned.

“I hate that you had to go through that alone,” Johnny said. “You had so much going on, and I don’t want you to worry. And because it could have been nothing,” Chanel explained. With a grin, Chanel noted that her pregnancy was a miracle. When Johnny hesitated, Chanel asked what was wrong.

“The doctor said you weren’t supposed to get pregnant yet. And that it could prevent them from being able to detect your cancer,” Johnny said. Johnny told Chanel that he could lose both her and the baby. Chanel admitted she shared his concern, but that the odds were on their side. “The truth is, I am scared to death,” Johnny said.

In the Titan CEO office, Kate asked to talk to Xander privately. Xander noted that they had succeeded in separating the companies before the tax deadline. “And thank you, by the way, for convincing Johnny to make it happen,” Xander said. “I did what had to be done. For Titan,” Kate said. Xander admitted he was surprised that Kate cared about the company.

“Have you forgotten Victor and I were once quite a couple? I had a son with him,” Kate said. Kate added that she refused to let all her hard work in the publishing arm go to waste either. Kate said that although Maggie cared about the company, she was too cautious. “But you Xander,” Kate said with a smirk. “Lack the moral fiber to just sit back and toe the line?” Xander said. Kate nodded yes. Kate noted that the company needed a fighter like Xander and like her.

“And I really think that if the two of us worked together, we could do what needs to be done,” Kate said. “Sounds to me like you want me to go behind Maggie’s back,” Xander countered. Kate asked Xander why he cared. “I owe Maggie, because she believed in me. Even when I didn’t believe in myself,” Xander said. Kate reminded Xander that Maggie barely tolerated him. “I don’t want to see Titan break up. Do you?” Kate asked. Xander agreed to listen to Kate’s plan.

Kate suggested that they take advantage of Johnny’s inexperience. When Xander asked about the long term plans for the CEO job at DiMera, Kate explained that Theo would need a lot of time to recover, and no one else was interested in the job. Xander asked Kate how Roman would feel about her plotting against his grandson. “I am plotting against DiMera,” Kate clarified. Kate gave Bonnie’s book to Xander.

After Kate explained her plan to Xander, he admitted that it was smart. “Only slightly underhanded, and hopefully not illegal,” Xander added. Kate assured Xander that the plan was legal. “Are you in?” Kate asked. “Most definitely,” Xander said.

At the Hernandez house, Leo gave Javi his refurbished engagement ring. Javi told Leo it was the happiest day of his life. Changing subjects, Leo asked Javi about New Year’s resolutions. Javi said he wanted to learn classical piano. Javi asked Leo to make his resolution to survive his EJ story.

Leo checked his email, and he read one from Johnny that confirmed that EJ and Gwen had been talking on the gala video about a delayed delivery. “Babe, you were right,” Javi said. Leo wondered aloud what had been delivered. “Maybe I can invite Gwen to the wedding and ask her about said delivery. I’m just worried it might be a bit of a downer having her there,” Leo said. “And why is that?” Javi asked. Leo reminded Javi that the last wedding that Gwen had gone to was the disastrous one with Dimitri.

When Javi mentioned closure, Leo insisted that he was not interested in Dimitri’s fate. Leo told Javi that Javi was the only man he cared about. “I think you should invite Gwen to our wedding. I think it’ll help you to move forward,” Javi said. Leo agreed, and he thanked Javi for his understanding.

In the DiMera living room, Gwen ordered a wedding present for Leo and Javi. EJ overheard as he walked in. Gwen admitted that she had not yet been invited, but she had ordered a gift. “And may I remind you, I am not ingratiating myself with Leo Stark because I want to, but because you are insistent upon it,” Gwen said. EJ thanked Gwen for her help during his absence. Curious, Gwen asked EJ what job he had asked Rita to handle. EJ smirked.

“If it does have to do with Matty, and if you are as grateful to me as you say you are, then I kindly ask you to cease and desist,” Gwen asked. “If I didn’t know better, I’d say that you were rather fond of the busybody journalist,” EJ said. Gwen insisted she only felt contempt for Leo, and she wanted to take her own revenge. EJ agreed to back off if Gwen convinced Leo to drop his investigation.

“I’ve got a foolproof plan to keep that busybody very distracted for the foreseeable future,” Gwen said. After Gwen left to meet up with Leo, Susan checked on EJ. Susan told EJ how relieved she was that he had survived his ordeal with Peter. “It was actually somewhat of a bonding experience,” EJ admitted. When Susan asked about his love life, EJ repeated that he had no interest in Cat. Susan warned EJ that she did not trust Cat or Gwen.

“What exactly is [Rolf] doing here?” Susan asked. EJ declined to answer, and he promised Susan that he was fine. Susan told EJ that she worried about Johnny. EJ stressed that the CEO job was temporary. “But if this position brings John Roman back into the family fold, then yes, I would have no problem with that,” EJ said. EJ admitted that his resolution for the new year was to repair his relationship with Johnny.

Leo and Javi met up with Gwen in the square. “You and I have not been on the best of terms. But you were once my best friend in the entire world,” Leo said. Leo stressed that he had never stopped caring about Gwen. “It would mean the world to us that you would come to our wedding,” Leo said. Gwen accepted, and Leo hugged her.

Javi asked Gwen if she could encourage EJ to back off of Leo. Gwen confirmed that she had already talked to EJ. “As long as you keep your big, fat nose out of EJ’s business, everything should be all right,” Gwen told Leo. “And yours too,” Leo added. Gwen’s smile faded, and she wished them luck.
