The Brown family is gearing up Sister Wives‘ return to air, but it wasn’t necessarily something they all envisioned happening.

Ahead of the TLC hit’s milestone 20th season kicking off on Sunday, Sept. 28, star Christine Brown Woolley wrote in her debut memoir, Sister Wife, that “Sister Wives has been a realistic representation” of her family.

However, her kids with ex-husband Kody Brown “are ready to be done with the show, for the most.” Even Christine, herself, admitted she was “surprised when we learned there would be another season,” especially as season 19 concluded on a somber note following the death of Garrison Brown, who is the son of Kody, 56, and former wife Janelle Brown.

Christine, 53, now tells PEOPLE about her hesitancy to return to the series that made her family household names.

“I just wasn’t sure if we still had a story to tell,” she admits. “But then, as I realized, we still have things that are happening in our lives that are interesting and that are good. And how do you navigate not only a breakup, but a divorce, a plural divorce with so many people? And how do you navigate relationships with sister wives?”

The mother of six notes that “there’s so much still to navigate and so much still to talk about because it’s not just a monogamy thing, it’s everybody.”

“Also, I think the reason why it’s still good [is] because it’s so relatable. It’s so relatable,” she continues. “I don’t know how many people go through divorces, but so many people do, and everybody is still like, ‘Yeah, I felt like that too.’ Blending families is something that’s new [to us], and monogamy is something that’s new [to us]. There’s enough things going on that are relatable, but I think people will still find it very interesting.”

Because she feels like “there’s still a story to be told,” Christine says that she’s “willing to be part of a story.”

“I like nothing more than a story. And you know what’s crazy? After a story’s over, after a movie is over, if it ends in a way that I don’t really particularly care for, I usually spend some time re-ending it,” she explains. “I feel like with us just continuing on with Sister Wives, it’s like it ended, but guess what? Just because it ended doesn’t mean it’s over.”
