The first look at Beth and Rip’s Yellowstone sequel series has been revealed, as well as confirmation about its changed title. It has been a year since Taylor Sheridan’s flagship series ended on Paramount Network. Despite Kevin Costner’s controversial exit, the series remains popular, hence why there will be two follow-up shows — one spearheaded by Kayce, and then another one with Beth and Rip.

Efficiently, Sheridan set up Beth and Rip’s sequel spinoff as Yellowstone was ending. With the original Dutton property being returned to the Broken Rock Reservation, the couple moved to Dillon, Montana, on a newly-bought farm. This is where their show will take place, with the couple navigating their new life with their unofficially adopted son, Carter. No release date has been revealed for the offshoot, but Paramount is starting to market it.

During the 83rd Golden Globes special, CBS ran an ad for Beth and Rip’s new Yellowstone show that was previously reportedly titled The Dutton Ranch (via TVInsider). That said, the promo confirmed that Sheridan is streamlining the name to only Dutton Ranch. The reveal came with the first look at the project, featuring both Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly riding horseback and having a joyous time on a gorgeous sunny day.

Interestingly, Kayce’s Marshals series also changed its title, dropping the “Y” branding at the front of its name. While it’s a minor alteration, it has been interpreted as an attempt to distance the offshoot from the flagship series, as Sheridan prepares to leave Paramount for NBCUniversal in a couple of years. Dropping “The” from Dutton Ranch doesn’t have any deeper impact on its narrative or its behind-the-scenes state.

If anything, the fact that it is keeping the name “Dutton” suggests that it is doing the opposite of what Marshals is allegedly trying to accomplish, as it is leaning on its Yellowstone connection. This somehow makes sense, considering that Beth and Rip are truly John Dutton III’s proteges, as they were his most loyal allies. Throughout everything that Costner’s character went through in the mothership, his only daughter and adopted son backed him every single time, even it meant that they, too, were put in a precarious position.

Dutton Ranch will also see Ed Harris as Everett McKinney, who is described as a “good-humored veterinarian, as well as a veteran.” Only time will tell if he ends up being a friend or foe to Beth and Rip, but, at the very least, the first teaser for the Yellowstone spinoff shows them maintaining the peaceful and happy life they fought so hard for. Unfortunately, it’s impossible for life to be always as idyllic like that.
