‘Yellowstone’ Star Luke Grimes Gushes Over His 1-Year-Old “Goofball” Son In Rare Fatherhood Update

Luke Grimes is the proud father of a 1-year-old son, having welcomed his first child with wife Bianca Rodrigues Grimes in October 2024. On the red carpet at the Golden Globes on Sunday night, Grimes chatted with Entertainment Tonightand shared a few updates on how he’s finding fatherhood over one year after his son was born.
“He’s not great at sleeping, but he’s great at everything else,” Grimes gushed of his little boy. “He’s the best. He just doesn’t sleep very well. I’m learning so much right now about the world and about myself and about him and about babies. There’s a lot to learn.”
When asked about the “funniest thing” his son has done lately, Grimes pointed to his son’s overall silly personality. “He’s just a goofball,” the Yellowstone star said. “And I don’t know where you get some of the stuff he comes up with. I’m not sure where he’s seeing it. Maybe me because I’m also a goofball. Could be it.”

Grimes spoke with PEOPLE in November 2024 just a few weeks after becoming a dad, sharing that the experience has been “magical to watch” and that “family has been a big thing since I was little.”
“I [have] a huge immediate family,” he explained. “I was the youngest of four. They all got married when I was still very young. So by the time I had nieces and nephews, starting at two years old, there was family everywhere all over the place. It was just sort of that way in Ohio and a Christian home, and so that was always my foundation.”
Growing up with a large family around him, the actor added that starting his own had always been a “North Star” in his life. “I knew one day I wanted to start my own family, and I knew that that was going to be where the real happiness came from,” he said. “The other stuff was just going to pay the bills.”

That “other stuff” includes Grimes’ turn as Kayce Dutton on the smash hit Yellowstone, which has led to an upcoming spin-off, Marshals. The CBS show will premiere on March 1 and stars Grimes in his role as Kayce Dutton, a former U.S. Navy SEAL who joins a group of U.S. Marshals whose job is to protect the state of Montana.
The show was originally titled Y: Marshals in an effort to let fans know that it’s set inside the Yellowstone universe, though the name was recently changed to drop the Y. Grimes was asked about the switch at the Golden Globes, and he explained that Kayce Dutton being so central to Marshals made it make a little more sense to drop the extra letter in the title.
“Well, it sounded like a question, didn’t it? Y:Marshals. I think they just wanted to make sure people knew it was a Yellowstone world, [Yellowstone creator] Taylor Sheridan world, kind of a show,” the actor and country singer said. “And it’s clear that once you see Kayce that it is that, so I think we can drop the ‘Y’ now.”
