Michelle Stafford’s Daytime Emmy “Date Rejection” Has Fans in Stitches
The Young and the Restless star Michelle Stafford, who plays the fiery Phyllis Summers, knows how to shine on the red carpet. Next month, she’ll be doing just that at the 52nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in October, where she’s nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
But when it came to picking her perfect date for the big night, Stafford didn’t exactly get the response she was hoping for.
The Emmy Invite That Backfired
Stafford recently posted a playful video featuring her son, Jameson, riding in the backseat of her car. She asked him if he’d like to be her plus-one at the Emmys this year.
His reply? A blunt, “Um, I would get too bored.”
Looking at the camera with mock disbelief, Stafford repeated his words: “You would get too bored.” Fans couldn’t stop laughing at the honesty only a child can deliver.
In the caption, she teased herself, writing: “Not a fan of my work.”
Soap Stars and Their Candid Kids
This isn’t the first time a Y&R actress has shared her child’s unfiltered reaction. Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea), who’s also nominated for Lead Actress, recently posted a video of her young son chanting, “Mommy’s bad!”
The candid clips struck a chord with fellow soap stars and moms alike. Amelia Heinle (Victoria) left a sweet comment for Stafford: “You are so beautiful.” Lauralee Bell (Christine) added: “Until he realizes how fun his mom is & her work friends.”
Friends Step In as Backup Dates
While Jameson turned her down, Stafford won’t be alone on the red carpet. Her former costar Don Diamont (ex-Brad on Y&R; now Bill on The Bold and the Beautiful) chimed in: “You still have me.” Stafford replied with a playful, “I doooo!!! I know!! Hahahaah.”
Her onscreen son, Michael Graziadei (Daniel), also joined in on the fun, jokingly agreeing with Jameson’s stance. Stafford reassured fans that the post was all in good fun, writing: “You all are sooo sweeet!! This was meant to be funny.”
The Big Night Ahead
The Daytime Emmy Awards will air Friday, October 17, and competition in the Lead Actress category is fierce. Along with Stafford and Egan, nominees include fellow Y&R stars Eileen Davidson (Ashley) and Sharon Case (Sharon), plus General Hospital icons Laura Wright (Carly) and Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis).
The Young and the Restless is also nominated in several top categories, including Outstanding Drama Series, Writing Team, and Directing Team.
