Coronation Street’s Carl Webster Star Jonathan Howard Praises Co-Stars After Robbery Ordeal
A Shocking Welcome Back to Manchester
Coronation Street actor Jonathan Howard, who plays Carl Webster on the ITV soap, has opened up about being the victim of a robbery shortly after returning to Manchester. The 38-year-old actor, who recently joined the long-running series, revealed that his car was broken into and valuable belongings were stolen, leaving him shaken by the experience.
Howard, who has been balancing life in Hollywood with his role on the cobbles, shared the news with fans via Instagram. Posting a picture of his damaged car, he captioned it: “Nice little welcome back gift from the Manchester scallies,” according to The Sun.
Belongings Stolen, But Support Floods In
In the upsetting break-in, Jonathan’s bag was stolen, along with several personal items. Among the losses was his jujitsu gi, which held personal significance for him. While the robbery was distressing, Howard said his Coronation Street co-stars quickly rallied around him to offer comfort and support.
Taking to Instagram again, Jonathan posted a heartfelt appreciation post alongside a picture of himself surrounded by several Corrie favourites, including Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster), Amy Robbins (Christina Boyd), Jodie Prenger (Glenda Shuttleworth), Patti Clare (Mary Taylor), Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby), Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe), and Jane Hazlegrove (Bernie Winter).
He captioned the picture:
“LADIES OF CORRIE APPRECIATION POST… Not only did I have the pleasure of having these lovely ladies all to myself last week, but I then received a card and cash donation towards buying myself a new jujitsu gi after my bag was stolen when my car got broken into. Thank you @suedevaney13 @jane_hazlegrove @realjanedanson @amylouiserobbins_ @sallydynevor also #Mary & #Glenda who aren’t on socials. Taking care of me @coronationstreet.”
Fans React With Love
Corrie fans were quick to respond to Jonathan’s post with messages of support and admiration for his co-stars’ kindness. One fan wrote: “Love this picture of you all and you are all my favourites on the show.” Another commented: “Omg dream table right there!!” while a third added: “What a lovely group to be with! What a kind bunch too.”
The show of solidarity highlights the close-knit family environment behind the scenes of the soap, a comfort for Jonathan as he continues adjusting to his new role in Weatherfield.
Carl Webster’s Impact on the Cobbles
Jonathan Howard made his debut as Carl Webster earlier this year, taking fans by surprise as the long-lost younger half-brother of Kevin and Debbie Webster. The character had been mentioned in the past but had never appeared on screen until now.
Carl’s arrival came with plenty of drama. He first clashed with Abi Webster after a minor collision in Frescho’s car park, not realising she was his sister-in-law. Though tensions were high, sparks quickly flew, leading to a complicated dynamic that has since evolved into a full-blown affair.
A Tangled Web of Affairs and Secrets
Despite Abi’s initial refusal to pursue Carl, reminding him she was married to Kevin and caring for her sick husband, passion eventually won out. The pair began an affair, which has since become a dangerous secret. Tracy Barlow has caught wind of their relationship and has been blackmailing them, tightening the pressure on Carl and Abi.
But in a twist, Carl shocked fans even further when he embarked on a fling with James Bailey during Abi’s absence, adding more fuel to the fire. His tangled relationships now place him at the heart of some of the soap’s most scandalous storylines.
Strength On and Off Screen
Though Carl Webster is stirring up chaos in Weatherfield, Jonathan Howard is grateful for the support he’s received off screen from his colleagues. The robbery may have been a harsh welcome back to Manchester, but the kindness of his co-stars has reminded him of the strong family he’s found on the cobbles.
As his storyline grows darker and more complicated, it seems Jonathan won’t be facing life’s challenges alone — on screen or off.
