‘Y: Marshals’ First Look: Kayce Dutton Leaves the Ranch for a Dangerous New Life
Yellowstone fans don’t have to say goodbye to the Duttons just yet. CBS has unveiled the first teaser and photos for Y: Marshals, a brand-new spinoff centered on Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes). This gritty new chapter takes the youngest Dutton son far from the ranch—and straight into the line of fire.

What ‘Y: Marshals’ Is About
Picking up after the final season of Yellowstone, the spinoff finds Kayce walking away from his ranching roots to join the U.S. Marshals. According to the official synopsis, he’ll blend his cowboy instincts and Navy SEAL training to deliver justice across Montana.
The teaser features Kayce reflecting on his choices, admitting he’s “changing paths” in search of “a new beginning.” But the promise of redemption collides with the grim reality of his new job: violence, loyalty, and the steep psychological toll of being the last line of defense in a lawless frontier.
Y: Marshals is slated to premiere as part of CBS’s midseason lineup in 2026.
Returning and New Faces
Luke Grimes won’t be carrying the series alone. Gil Birmingham reprises his role as Thomas Rainwater, with Mo Brings Plenty back as his trusted right-hand man. Kayce’s son Tate will also appear, though Monica’s (Kelsey Asbille) return has not yet been confirmed.
Joining the cast is Logan Marshall-Green (And Just Like That…), who plays Pete Calvin, an old military friend from Kayce’s past. His arrival hints at a deeper dive into Kayce’s Navy SEAL history and how those bonds could complicate his future as a marshal.

Expanding the Yellowstone Universe
Y: Marshals is just one of several Taylor Sheridan spinoffs in development. Paramount has The Madison, a drama about a wealthy New York family adapting to life in Montana, and The Dutton Ranch, following Beth (Kelly Reilly), Rip (Cole Hauser), and Carter (Finn Little). Sheridan is also working on 1944, a new prequel, as well as a series set at the Four Sixes ranch in Texas.
A Fresh Purpose for Kayce Dutton
For Luke Grimes, stepping back into Kayce’s boots wasn’t about nostalgia. The actor revealed he only returned because this story offered a “new purpose” for the character—one that goes beyond ranch life and places Kayce in a moral battleground unlike anything fans have seen before.
