Home and Away Fans Rage Over Theo Poulos’ Death: “He Deserved Better”

Theo’s Shocking Exit Leaves Viewers Stunned

Home and Away fans have been left devastated — and furious — after the soap killed off Theo Poulos in a brutal hit-and-run. Played by Matt Evans since 2021, Theo was one of Summer Bay’s most popular young characters, making his death even harder to accept.

Wednesday’s episode ended with Theo sacrificing himself to save his girlfriend Lacey (Sophea Pennington). Councillor Craig Wendell (Justin Smith) deliberately drove at her after being confronted over her mother’s death. Theo shoved her out of the way, only to be struck himself.

While the cliffhanger left some hope, previews for the following episode confirmed the worst: Theo had died.

Fans Slam Writers for “Lazy” Exit

For many, the blow wasn’t just Theo’s departure, but the way it was written. Viewers quickly vented online, with some threatening to boycott the soap altogether.

“Why would you kill off one of the best actors in the show?” one fan wrote. “They’re just wrecking it — soon no one will bother watching.”

Another added: “I think I’m done with H&A. No point in me watching anymore episodes.”

Some complained about the repetitive nature of the storyline. “Always a death, always a car accident, always cancer. It’s so repetitive and boring.”

Others were simply heartbroken. “He deserved a better ending than that,” one viewer wrote.Does Theo die? Home and Away cliffhanger leaves Theo's life on the line

A Question of Lacey’s Future

Theo’s death has also raised questions about Lacey’s fate. Since actress Sophea Pennington is Matt Evans’ real-life partner, fans are speculating she may follow him off the show. “Isn’t Theo dating Lacey in real life? So she’s going too?” one fan asked.

Though not confirmed, Evans hinted at possible plans in an Instagram post: “As one door closes another one opens @sopheapennington 🩵.”

Matt Evans Looks Ahead

Speaking after the episode, Evans admitted he never wanted Theo to be killed off. He previously said he hoped Theo would leave to pursue a music career, leaving the door open for a return. Instead, his death closes that chapter for good.

The actor has already begun auditioning in Hollywood and appears excited for what’s next. Meanwhile, his exit leaves a hole in Home and Away — and a bitter taste for fans who felt his character’s fate was rushed and undeserved.

A Divided Audience

While some praised the emotional twist, many loyal viewers now feel alienated. With boycotts threatened and frustration high, the show faces backlash over losing one of its most promising stars.

For Theo Poulos, his story ended as a hero. But for his fans, his final scene marked a breaking point.
