Dev’s World “Turns Upside Down”

Actor Jimmi Harkishin, who has played Dev since 1999, revealed that his character’s reaction is one of shock, guilt, and overwhelming grief.

“He gets a call from Amy, and suddenly his whole world turns upside down,” Harkishin explained. “That’s when he starts going into denial mode and says, ‘No, this is going to be fine.’ He doesn’t want to face it — he doesn’t even want to hear that word.”

As Dev rushes to the hospital, his emotions swing between anger, sorrow, and helplessness. “He takes out his frustrations, his anger, his self-doubt and recriminations with Bernie,” Harkishin said. “But when he goes back to the hospital, he’s very gentle with his daughter — caring and apologetic. Then he leaves, and all that emotion just floods out of him. There’s a massive mask that keeps slipping every time he walks away from her.”

It’s a performance that promises to show Dev at his most vulnerable — a father desperately trying to stay strong when his family needs him most.

Tanisha Gorey Delivers a Heart-Wrenching Performance

Harkishin praised Tanisha Gorey, who plays Asha, for her powerful and authentic portrayal of a young woman battling mental illness.

“She’s incredible, really,” he said. “Instinctively, what she’s done is just wonderful, and I always feel really safe with her. She doesn’t feel like an actress playing my daughter — she feels like my daughter. She’s very capable and confident, and she’s just soaked up everything around her over the years.”"Suddenly, his whole world turns upside down."

Asha’s Recovery Journey Begins — But It’s Not Easy

Tanisha Gorey also opened up about the storyline and what’s to come for Asha in the aftermath of her suicide attempt.

“In hospital, [Asha] tells Dev that it all became too much and she took the booze and pills with the intention of killing herself,” Gorey revealed. “She tells him that she’s glad it didn’t work.”

However, the road to recovery will be far from simple. “She’s not in the clear,” Gorey continued. “When she comes home, we see her still suffering from depression. I think that’s important — to show it’s not always a quick fix. For people who are struggling, it shows it’s okay to ask for help again.”

The storyline is expected to spark important conversations about mental health, particularly the lingering trauma faced by those who experience racism and workplace abuse.bernie winter, dev alahan, coronation street
