Emmerdale’s PC Swirling Star Andy Moore Stuns Fans with Major Career Move After 21 Years
After more than two decades of keeping law and order in the Yorkshire Dales, Emmerdale favourite Andy Moore is stepping into a new spotlight. The actor, best known as PC Mike Swirling, has announced an exciting project away from the ITV soap — and fans are thrilled.
From Police Work to Music Passion
Andy, whose real name is Andy Whitaker, has been part of Emmerdale since 2004, appearing in countless major storylines and becoming one of the show’s longest-serving recurring characters. Known for his calm authority and quick wit, PC Swirling has played a key role in catching the village’s most notorious troublemakers.
Now, after 21 years in the fictional force, Andy is pursuing another lifelong passion — music. He’s set to release a brand-new album titled “The Black and White Detective and The Technicolour Cowboy”, created in collaboration with musician Michael Reed. The record will officially launch on Friday, October 24, and fans are already buzzing.
A Creative Collaboration Born from Friendship
The pair first met just before the Covid-19 pandemic while working together on the late Chameleons drummer John Lever’s project Red Sided Garter Snakes. Their musical chemistry quickly sparked a friendship — and a full album.
After realising they lived on the same street, Andy and Michael decided to join forces on their own creative venture. The album features 13 tracks, including Out and About, Don’t You Love Me, Mr Potatohead (Woozy Psychedelia), The River, Watching the Rain, and Here.
Fans React with Excitement
Since sharing the news, Andy has received an outpouring of support from fans. “Great song, can’t wait!” one wrote. Another commented, “Great gothy textures and sounds — but what really struck me is your songwriting at the heart of it all.”
A Career Full of Surprises
While Emmerdale remains his most famous role, Andy has appeared in several other British TV hits, including The Bill, The Royal, Dream Team, Sky Peals, and Fred and Marv. He even made guest appearances in Coronation Street — once as a driver in 2005 and later as a photographer in 2010.
With a rich acting résumé and now a brand-new musical career, Andy Moore is proving that creativity knows no limits. From the streets of Emmerdale to the recording studio, PC Swirling is officially charting a bold new path.
