After four years in Home and Away, Matt Evans has officially bid farewell to his beloved character Theo Poulos. Viewers were left devastated as Theo sacrificed himself in heartbreaking scenes, throwing himself in front of a speeding car to save his girlfriend, Lacey (Sophea Pennington).
The emotional storyline marked the end of an era for both Theo and the actor who brought him to life. “It was incredibly sad to leave,” Matt admitted. “It felt like finishing high school. You spend every day with these people, then suddenly you’re saying goodbye.”
From Troubled Teen to Hero
When Theo first arrived in Summer Bay, he was a rebellious newcomer, constantly testing his family’s patience. Under the care of Leah (Ada Nicodemou) and Justin (James Stewart), he matured into one of the show’s most loved characters.
Theo’s journey—from battling addiction and surviving kidnapping to rediscovering his passion for music—showcased Matt’s emotional range. His heroic final act cemented Theo as one of Home and Away’s most memorable modern characters.
Life After the Bay
Now that his Summer Bay chapter has closed, Matt is setting his sights on Hollywood. “Los Angeles is the next step,” he revealed in an interview with TV WEEK. “It’s time to chase the big acting dreams now.”
Following in the footsteps of Home and Away alumni like Chris Hemsworth, Isla Fisher, and Samara Weaving, Matt hopes to carve out an international career. “The great thing about acting is that you just keep going. You audition and see what story you’re meant to tell next,” he said.
Bonds That Will Last a Lifetime
Matt credits co-star James Stewart as a mentor and friend, describing him as “a guiding hand throughout the entire journey.” He also shared how much he’ll miss the close-knit cast and crew, particularly his on-screen family. “Working with Jimmy and Ada was such a joy. The banter on set got me through every week,” he recalled.
The Next Chapter
Though Theo’s story has ended, Matt’s is only beginning. He’s currently auditioning for roles “in everything I can get my hands on” and remains optimistic about the future. “A door has closed on one chapter, but another is opening. I’m so excited for what’s next.”
