Emmerdale Star James Moore’s Powerful Mission in Honour of His Late Father

A Climb for Courage and a Cure

Emmerdale favourite James Moore, known for playing Ryan Stocks, is set to take on the height of Ben Nevis—indoors—to raise awareness and funds for a disease that changed his family forever. The actor will complete the climb on October 25, honouring his late father, Stephen, who passed away from myeloma, an incurable form of blood cancer, in June last year.

James, who has cerebral palsy, will scale a 17-metre climbing wall multiple times until he reaches the 1,345-metre height of Ben Nevis, supported by family and friends. The event will raise vital funds for Myeloma UK, a charity dedicated to finding a cure and supporting those affected.

Remembering His Father

Speaking about his motivation, James shared a heartfelt tribute:
“My dad was an amazing father to three sons, a loving husband, and a doting grandfather. Even when he was ill, he stayed strong and calm. He always cared more about us than himself. That’s just who he was.”

James revealed that his father had been diagnosed in 2021 after experiencing fatigue and back pain. Despite treatment, his health deteriorated over time. On what would have been Stephen’s 70th birthday, James made a donation to Myeloma UK—but wanted to do more.

Finding Healing Through Bouldering

Because of his condition, James couldn’t take part in typical charity runs or walks, but he found a new passion in bouldering, a form of climbing that requires focus and strength. “It’s mentally engaging and something I can do,” he explained. “It’s helped me process my grief and given me a goal. I’d love to see a cure found in my lifetime.”

He hopes the challenge will encourage others to learn about myeloma and support the cause. “I want to raise money for research and for resources to help families going through what we did. Anyone’s welcome to come along and watch us climb.”

Myeloma: The Silent Threat

Myeloma affects over 33,000 people in the UK. Though currently incurable, treatments can offer long periods of remission. Raising awareness is crucial to early detection and research progress.

James’s story brings attention not just to the illness but to the power of perseverance and love in the face of loss.

Turning Pain Into Purpose

The Emmerdale star’s efforts show a side of resilience that goes far beyond the screen. By turning grief into action, James honours his father’s legacy while inspiring hope for other families affected by cancer.

“Dad always told me to keep pushing forward,” he said. “That’s exactly what this climb is about—pushing forward, for him and for everyone still fighting.”
