‘Y: Marshals’: First Look at Luke Grimes’ Yellowstone Spinoff

Get ready, Yellowstone fans — Luke Grimes is officially saddling up again. ET has your exclusive first look at Y: Marshals, the highly anticipated spinoff series that will see Grimes return as Kayce Dutton, one of television’s most beloved and conflicted modern cowboys.

Set to premiere on CBS in 2026, Y: Marshals expands Taylor Sheridan’s ever-growing Western universe, taking Kayce far beyond the Dutton Ranch — and straight into a world of law, justice, and danger.

From Ranch Hand to Lawman

In the new series, Kayce Dutton — a former Navy SEAL turned rancher — joins an elite, specialized unit of U.S. Marshals tasked with pursuing fugitives and investigating crimes across the American frontier.

While Yellowstone explored Kayce’s struggle to balance family loyalty with his moral code, Y: Marshals throws him into a high-stakes environment where justice isn’t always black and white.

A first-look image released by CBS shows Grimes in rugged tactical gear, horseback in one scene and in pursuit on foot in another — a visual blend of the Yellowstone grit with the procedural intensity of True Detective and Justified.Yellowstone's Luke Grimes lands major new film role | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV | Express.co.uk

Taylor Sheridan’s Expanding Universe

Y: Marshals marks the latest chapter in Taylor Sheridan’s Dutton-verse, following 1883, 1923, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves. Sheridan, who co-created the spinoff, is set to direct the pilot episode and serve as executive producer.

According to insiders, the show will feature “the same moral complexity and cinematic scope” that made Yellowstone a cultural juggernaut, while introducing a brand-new ensemble of lawmen and outlaws.

“Kayce has always been torn between two worlds — family and duty,” Sheridan teased in a statement. “Now we’ll see what happens when he has to enforce the law instead of live outside it.”

Luke Grimes on Returning as Kayce

For Luke Grimes, the return to the Yellowstone universe felt both natural and challenging.

“Kayce’s journey has always been about finding peace,” Grimes told ET. “But in Y: Marshals, he’s walking straight into chaos again. He’s still the same man — loyal, brave, and flawed — but this time, his fight isn’t just for his family. It’s for justice.”

What to Expect

Y: Marshals promises action-packed storytelling, sweeping landscapes, and the emotional depth fans have come to expect from Sheridan’s world.

The series will film primarily in New Mexico and Montana, with production beginning early in 2026. Casting announcements for Kayce’s team of Marshals — including a rumored major female lead — are expected in the coming weeks.

The Legacy Continues

With Yellowstone entering its final phase, Y: Marshals is being positioned as both a continuation and reinvention of the franchise.

If the first look is any indication, Luke Grimes is ready to carry the Dutton legacy forward — this time with a badge, a horse, and a whole new code to live by.
