Todd Grimshaw’s relationship with Theo Silverton has been unstable for weeks, and next week’s Coronation Street episodes will see the situation take a terrifying turn. Actor Gareth Pierce has confirmed that Theo’s anger erupts once more, describing the storyline as both “shocking” and deeply distressing.
Todd is now trapped in what Gareth calls the “eggshells phase” of the relationship, constantly second-guessing his partner’s moods. “Todd has really anchored his own moods to whatever he’s going to get from Theo day to day,” he explained. “He’s trying to anticipate things that might rile Theo to avoid a situation like the kebab scene, where it really boiled over.”
Theo’s Control Grows as Todd Withdraws
Viewers will recall the disturbing moment last month when Theo humiliated Todd by forcing food into his mouth during a heated argument. Since then, Theo’s controlling behaviour has only worsened.
“Todd is scared of him physically,” Gareth revealed. “There’s still love there somewhere, but Todd thinks he can fix him, which is what makes it so heartbreaking.”
The actor described how Todd’s demeanour changes around his partner. “When he’s with people like Sarah, George, or Billy, he’s briefly relaxed. But as soon as Theo walks in, he’s back to that tense, people-pleasing headspace. It’s that horrible pit-of-the-stomach feeling like when you know something bad’s coming.”
A Small Mistake Sparks Theo’s Fury
Things escalate when Todd offers Sarah Platt and her son Harry a lift. Harry accidentally spills a milkshake in Theo’s car, leaving Todd nervous about how Theo will react. At first, Theo seems calm—while Sarah is there.
But once they’re alone, Theo berates Todd for “disrespecting” his car. Todd promises to get it professionally cleaned, but disaster strikes again when he accidentally scrapes the paintwork while reversing.

As Todd tries to patch things up, Theo lashes out in a shocking outburst that leaves Todd terrified. “There’s a moment where Todd thinks everything’s sorted, but then he realises it’s not okay,” Gareth explained. “That’s when Theo’s fury really erupts—and it’s very much directed at Todd.”

The scenes mark one of Coronation Street’s most disturbing relationship storylines in recent years, tackling themes of coercive control and domestic violence from a male victim’s perspective. Gareth praised the show’s writers for portraying the complexity of such abuse with realism and empathy.
