Y: Marshals Trailer Reveals Kayce Dutton’s Next Chapter in Yellowstone Spinoff

The Yellowstone universe just expanded once again. The first teaser trailer for Y: Marshals has arrived, giving fans their long-awaited glimpse of Luke Grimes back in the saddle as Kayce Dutton. The upcoming CBS drama serves as a direct sequel to the Yellowstone finale and marks the first modern-day spinoff centered entirely on one of the Dutton heirs.

Kayce Dutton Rides Again

Created by Taylor Sheridan and SEAL Team writer Spencer Hudnut, Y: Marshals picks up after the emotional ending of Yellowstone. In the original series’ finale, Kayce and his sister Beth (Kelly Reilly) struck a peace deal with Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), agreeing to sell the Yellowstone Ranch to the Broken Rock Reservation while keeping a small piece of land for Kayce’s family.Yellowstone star teases return of 'fan-favourites' in major spin-off update - Daily Record

Now, Y: Marshals finds Kayce trading ranch life for a new mission — joining the U.S. Marshals to bring law and order to Montana. The teaser shows him horseback alongside other marshals, overseeing a moving train and narrating about finding “a new beginning” after the death of his father, John Dutton III.

The series will feature both new and familiar faces, including Gil Birmingham (Rainwater), Moses Brings Plenty (Mo), Brecken Merrill (Tate Dutton), and newcomer Logan Marshall-Green in a yet-unknown role.

Why Kayce Becomes a Marshal

While the trailer keeps plot details vague, fans are already theorizing about why Kayce abandons his plan to run his own ranch. One possible explanation is grief — unable to move past his father’s death and years of family turmoil, Kayce might see federal service as the only way to channel his pain into purpose.

Another theory suggests that the loss of the Yellowstone Ranch has destabilized the region. With Broken Rock expanding and John Dutton’s iron grip gone, criminal elements could be filling the vacuum — forcing Kayce to step up and restore balance.

A New Tone for the Yellowstone Universe

Visually, Y: Marshals looks every bit as rugged and cinematic as its predecessor. The teaser teases explosive action sequences — including Kayce galloping after a speeding car — that prove Sheridan and CBS aren’t cutting corners despite the network setting.

The series will also reportedly dive deeper into Kayce’s psychological and spiritual trauma, including unresolved elements from his haunting Yellowstone vision quest. With more time to explore his internal conflict, Y: Marshals could become one of Sheridan’s most introspective projects yet.Yellowstone's Luke Grimes lands major new film role | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV | Express.co.uk

What Fans Are Saying

Early reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising Luke Grimes’ return as a natural progression for Kayce. “It’s the perfect next step for him,” one fan wrote online. “He’s still a Dutton at heart, but now he’s fighting for something bigger.”

Y: Marshals is expected to premiere in 2026 on CBS, with episodes streaming on Paramount+ afterward.
