Coronation Street fans have reason to celebrate as soap favourite Catherine Tyldesley officially returns to Weatherfield — eight years after bidding farewell to the cobbles as glamorous barmaid Eva Price.
Catherine’s Low-Key Outing After Huge Soap News
The 42-year-old actress was spotted stepping out in Manchester with her husband Tom Pitfield just hours after her comeback was confirmed. Keeping it casual, Catherine wore a white jumper, black leggings and trainers, while Tom opted for a sporty look in a grey hoodie and red trainers.
The couple’s relaxed appearance came after what’s shaping up to be one of the biggest Coronation Street announcements in years — Eva Price is back, and this time she’s taking charge of The Rovers Return Inn.
“I’d Kill to Be Landlady One Day”
Speaking to The Sun, Catherine revealed that she initially thought she was being brought back for a funeral storyline — not a dream promotion.
“I was filming in Malta when Kate [Brooks, producer] called,” she said. “I thought someone must have died and Eva was coming back for the funeral. Then Kate said, ‘Would you like to be landlady?’ and I just went, ‘Aaargh!’”
Catherine admitted she was stunned by the offer, describing it as a “childhood dream come true.” She added: “I remember watching Coronation Street as a kid thinking, ‘I’d kill to be landlady one day. How cool would that be?’”
Eva’s Return Storyline Revealed
Eva will return to the cobbles alongside her on-screen partner Ben Driscoll (played by Aaron McCusker). Their comeback will see the couple step behind the bar at the newly reopened Rovers Return, a move that’s sure to shake things up for locals and bring a fresh wave of drama to the Street.
Catherine originally played Eva from 2011 to 2018. Her character was known for her fiery personality, romantic entanglements, and iconic one-liners. Fans last saw Eva leaving for France with her daughter Susie after a turbulent time in Weatherfield that included heartbreak, revenge, and loss.

During her original run, Eva became a fan favourite through her high-profile storylines, including her explosive romance with Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward). After discovering Aidan’s affair with Maria Connor, Eva staged one of the soap’s most memorable revenge plots — faking a pregnancy and splurging Aidan’s savings on a pink Range Rover.
Her story later turned tragic when she learned she was genuinely pregnant, only for Aidan to take his own life shortly after. The emotional storyline ended with Eva deciding to raise baby Susie away from Weatherfield.

Since leaving Coronation Street, Catherine has starred in the BBC sitcom Scarborough and took to the stage in Bonnie & Clyde: The Musical. She also reunited with former co-star Shayne Ward on ITV’s The Good Ship Murder.
