Emmerdale Star James Moore Climbs ‘Ben Nevis’ for Charity in Touching Tribute to Late Father
Emmerdale actor James Moore, best known for his role as Ryan Stocks, is taking on an extraordinary challenge this October — scaling the height of Ben Nevis in just one day, all from the walls of Gloucestershire’s 270 Climbing Park. The emotional climb is a heartfelt tribute to his late father and a powerful fundraising effort for Myeloma UK, a charity close to his heart.
A Climb with Meaning
On Saturday, 25 October 2025, James will lead a team of family and friends at the 270 Climbing Centre in Gloucester, where together they’ll ascend the centre’s 17-metre wall enough times to match the 1,345-metre height of Scotland’s highest mountain.
While his Emmerdale character spends his days in the rolling Yorkshire Dales, James is returning home to Cheltenham for this deeply personal cause. The event, he says, is not only a physical challenge but a symbolic one — a climb for love, memory, and awareness.
Honouring His Father’s Legacy
James’s father, Stephen Moore, passed away in 2024 after a four-year battle with myeloma, a rare and incurable blood cancer. Speaking about his decision to take on the challenge, James revealed how bouldering became a source of strength during his grieving process.
“Climbing helped me through the hardest time of my life,” he shared. “Now I want to use that passion to raise awareness of myeloma and help others affected by it.”
The event will raise funds for Myeloma UK, which supports thousands of patients and families affected by the disease across the UK.
Bringing the Community Together
James won the National Television Award for Best Newcomer in 2019 for his standout performance on Emmerdale, and now he’s channeling that same determination into his real-life mission. Alongside eight teammates, he’ll be tackling the wall repeatedly throughout the day — a test of both stamina and spirit.
Spectators are encouraged to visit 270 Climbing Park to cheer on James and his team as they scale toward their goal. For those unable to attend, donations can be made through JustGiving, with all proceeds going directly to Myeloma UK.

Raising Awareness, One Climb at a Time
With roughly 33,000 people in the UK currently living with myeloma, James hopes his challenge will help shine a light on the need for continued research and support.
“This isn’t just for my dad,” James said. “It’s for everyone who’s ever had to watch someone they love fight this disease.”
