Coronation Street Star Reveals Co-Star ‘Couldn’t Work With Him’ After Hilarious On-Set Incident
Coronation Street stars Ben Price and Colson Smith have shared a behind-the-scenes confession that’s left fans in stitches — and a little curious. The pair revealed that one of their co-stars once “couldn’t work with them” after a hysterical day on set that spiralled out of control.
“We Just Got the Giggles”
Speaking on their On The Sofa podcast, which they co-host with fellow Corrie actor Jack P. Shepherd (David Platt), Ben and Colson recalled a day filming inside the Rovers Return when professionalism went completely out the window.
Ben explained that the chaos unfolded during Toyah and Imran’s wedding scenes. “We were just meant to be in the background making small talk,” he said. “But we got the giggles.”
Instead of sticking to the script, the two decided to improvise — inventing random conversations about the Bistro and making each other laugh so hard that their laughter became contagious. Cameras caught them more than once, ruining take after take.
Colson added with a grin, “We were ad-libbing in the background and adding to each other’s jokes until neither of us could stop laughing.”
“They Couldn’t Work With Us”
Their fun didn’t amuse everyone. According to Ben, one castmate eventually lost patience, asking them to stop so the scene could finally be finished.
“They told us, ‘Please, just stop messing around for the next take,’” Ben recalled. But the pair, caught up in the moment, couldn’t resist — and kept the laughter going.
Colson admitted, “We tried to behave, but it was too funny. We just couldn’t stop.”
Their antics left the mystery co-star fuming, and while neither Ben nor Colson has revealed who it was, the story has sent fans into detective mode, flooding social media with guesses.

Listeners of On The Sofa were quick to react, begging the duo to name names. “Tell us who it was!” one fan wrote. “It’s not a bad thing, just hilarious!” Another added, “Oh please tell us he’s still on the show — he clearly has no sense of humour!”
Despite the curiosity, Ben and Colson have kept the identity secret, insisting the story is all in good fun.
Corrie’s Comedy Duo
Ben Price joined Coronation Street back in 2009 as Nick Tilsley, the Platt family’s ambitious and often hot-headed son. Colson Smith made his debut two years later as Craig Tinker, growing from an awkward teenager into Weatherfield’s most lovable police officer.
The pair’s off-screen chemistry has made them one of Corrie’s most popular duos. Together with Jack P. Shepherd, they launched their On The Sofa podcast in 2022 — a mix of showbiz banter, behind-the-scenes secrets, and self-deprecating humour that fans can’t get enough of.
Ben laughed, admitting that while their sense of humour sometimes derails filming, it’s part of what makes the long-running soap such a joy to work on. “You’ve got to have a laugh,” he said. “If you don’t, you’ll never survive on Corrie.”
