“It’s Been Really Painful” — Matt Opens Up from Hospital
Matt, who starred in EastEnders from 2011 to 2012, took to Instagram Stories to share his experience on Wednesday. In a video filmed beside his hospital bed, the actor explained that the injury dated back to the spring and had become increasingly painful over time.
“It’s been really painful,” he told his followers. “Today is the day I get shoulder surgery.”
Hours later, he posted another update following the procedure, appearing groggy but upbeat. “Hey team, out of surgery now. Very drowsy, but success,” he said. “I’m still here. In a lot of pain, but it’s all good.”

Overnight Stay After “Very Bad” Pain
Matt later revealed that his recovery took an unexpected turn when the post-surgery pain intensified. “The pain has got very bad, so I’m having to stay in overnight,” he said. “Keep getting hot and cold sweats and stuff, so they’re just going to monitor me tonight. I’m still okay. It went well.”
Despite the discomfort, the actor kept his spirits high, joking that his shoulder was “very manky” before the operation but “all cleaned up now.” He praised his surgeon and thanked his wife for being by his side. “My lovely wife’s just gone out to get me some bits and bobs,” he added. “I don’t think I’m gonna have much sleep with this, but we’re gonna push through. Thank you for all your messages.”
From Albert Square to New Roles
Matt first rose to fame on EastEnders as Anthony Moon, the son of Eddie Moon (David Essex) and brother to Tyler (Tony Discipline). He joined the soap in July 2011 and remained until August 2012.

While Matt continues to recover, fans have flooded his social media with messages of support. His openness about pain and recovery struck a chord with many viewers who remember his time on EastEnders.
Though he admitted the pain has been “rough,” the actor remained positive. “It went well,” he assured followers. “We’re gonna push through.”
