Coronation Street’s Jodie Prenger Left in Tears as She Makes Emotional Promise to Fans
Coronation Street favourite Jodie Prenger has opened up about being moved to tears by a recent on-set moment — while promising viewers that more laughter and heartwarming scenes are coming to Weatherfield.
The actress, who plays Glenda Shuttleworth, revealed that despite the soap’s recent run of dark storylines, fans can expect a perfect balance of comedy and drama in the months ahead.
“I Was Literally Crying — and Then We Were Laughing”
Jodie spoke candidly about her deep love for Coronation Street and its storytelling magic.
“I have always been a staunch fan of Corrie,” she told The Mirror. “If you’re going to watch it, you’re guaranteed to laugh and cry in the same episode. It’s so special how the writers construct each story — it gives you everything.”
But one moment in particular left the actress overwhelmed. “There was a scene with Jimmi Harkishin, who plays Dev, and it broke my heart,” she revealed. “I was literally crying — and that was genuine. But seconds later, we were hysterical and laughing. That’s the magic of Corrie.”
Comedy and Heart Are Back on the Cobbles
Jodie reassured long-time viewers that the show’s signature humour is returning in full force. “From what we’ve filmed, it’s packed with comedy and packed with good drama,” she said. “I love what they’re doing with the show. It’s the craft of Corrie that has kept it going for 65 years — and there’s some really good stuff ahead.”
Her words come as the soap faces criticism from fans who have felt recent storylines were too bleak. Jodie’s promise of lighter, character-driven moments is a welcome relief — especially from an actress whose warmth has made Glenda a standout since her debut.
Jodie’s Corrie Dream Come True
Joining Coronation Street in 2022, Jodie fulfilled a lifelong dream shared by her family of dedicated Corrie fans. “I love it there,” she said earlier this year. “I used to always say to my agent, ‘Would you ask if I can be on Corrie?’ I was that crazy person outside, pitched in a tent, wanting to get in — and now I’m in!”
The actress also confirmed she has re-signed her contract for another year, meaning fans can expect to see plenty more of Glenda’s sass, sparkle, and sharp humour well into 2026.
“I’ve just re-signed my contract! The poor things are stuck with me for another year,” she joked. “I’m thrilled.”
What’s Next for Glenda Shuttleworth
While specific details about Glenda’s upcoming storylines are under wraps, Jodie hinted that the next chapter will showcase her character’s big heart and quick wit. Fans can expect more family drama at Shuttleworth’s funeral parlour — and plenty of pub-side laughs at the Rovers.
Whether she’s trading barbs with brother George (Tony Maudsley) or sharing a pint with Dev Alahan, Glenda remains one of Weatherfield’s brightest sparks — a fitting reflection of Jodie’s infectious energy both on and off screen.
