Chicago Fire Spoilers: Fall Preview Teases Major Twists Ahead
Chicago Fire is back this fall, and Firehouse 51 won’t have it easy. Since its 2012 debut, Dick Wolf’s One Chicago universe has dominated ratings. Now, in 2025, the series continues to hold its place as one of NBC’s most-watched dramas. But this season, real-world struggles hit closer to home, bringing dramatic changes and emotional departures.
Hard Times for Firehouse 51
The show will mirror the Windy City’s recent fire department cuts. According to showrunner Andrea Newman, “There will be a significant impact on all our characters, particularly the medics.”
Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) and Lizzy Shaffer (Jocelyn Hudon) will be swamped with endless ambulance calls. Rescue Squad’s Harold Capp (Randy Flagler) jumps in to help, but Violet faces another blow—she’s losing her closest friend in the house.
An Emotional Goodbye
Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) returns at the start of the season, only to bid a heartfelt farewell after a few episodes. His exit leaves Violet without her best friend, while her on-again, off-again romance with Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) adds another layer of tension.
New Recruits, New Conflicts
The staffing shortage forces Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) to bring in Sal Vasquez, a former police academy trainee turned firefighter. Confident and eager to prove himself, Vasquez sparks playful clashes with Lt. Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), earns respect from Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), and flirts with Novak on the side.
Severide Steps Up
Pascal gives much of the decision-making power to Severide, making him the de facto leader of 51. But the added responsibility comes just as he and Kidd prepare for parenthood. Their marriage will be tested as they juggle life-and-death calls with the challenges of family life.
Hermann and Mouch Trade Roles
In a surprising shake-up, Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) steps down as lieutenant, giving Randall “Mouch” McHolland (Christian Stolte) the position. Mouch quickly embraces his authority—maybe a little too much. Their friendship will be strained, with clashes that promise both humor and heartfelt moments.
A Season of High Stakes
With firehouse closures, emotional farewells, new recruits, and shifting leadership, Chicago Fire Season 13 is shaping up to be one of the most dramatic yet. Loyalty will be tested, relationships strained, and Firehouse 51 must fight harder than ever to stay strong.
The new season premieres Wednesday, October 1, at 8/7c on NBC, streaming next day on Peacock.
