Speaking exclusively to The Sun at the National Television Awards, Devaney admitted she had no intention of leaving the show. “I was quite happy at Corrie,” she said. “I’d just got married last year… at Corrie I’m with all my mates. This was the next closest thing to a normal job.”

Despite the surprise, Sue took the news in stride, recognizing the opportunity the storyline presented. “I had to think, ‘I’m an actor and I want to act.’ And this then became a perfect opportunity to really do that,” she explained.
