“Coercive control and domestic abuse have been covered before, but rarely with this level of focus on two men,” Gareth explained. “The dynamics are universal, but there are also unique pressures—like societal ideas about masculinity—that make it difficult to recognise or report.”

The actor praised the soap’s research, stressing the aim is to reflect truthfully how victims in same-sex relationships can face specific hurdles when seeking help or even being believed by authorities.
