Coronation Street’s Sally Dynevor Opens Up on the Scene She’ll “Never Forget”
Coronation Street legend Sally Dynevor has reflected on one of the most emotional moments of her career — a scene with co-star Alison King that became unforgettable for reasons far beyond the script.
A Career Nearing 40 Years on Corrie
Sally Dynevor has played Sally Metcalfe (née Webster) since 1986, making her one of the longest-serving stars in Weatherfield. As she approaches her 40th anniversary on the show, she recently spoke on Matt Lucas and David Walliams’ podcast Making a Scene about the highs and lows of life on a soap.
Revealing that she, like many cast members, is contracted “one year at a time,” Sally admitted: “None of us are indispensable. There’s always other people and other stories to be told.”
Real Life Colliding with Storyline
In 2009, Sally faced a devastating breast cancer diagnosis in real life, just as her on-screen character was going through the same harrowing journey. She recalled how life and fiction collided in ways she could hardly believe.
“I went back to work, just before I started chemo, and I did a scene with Alison King, who plays Carla, and I’ll never forget it,” she explained. “Sally, my character, had to tell her she had breast cancer while I was telling… well, everyone knew. The crew knew I was going off for six months. It was the strangest scene I’ve ever filmed in my life.”
She described how the set fell into complete silence during filming, with crew whispering notes to her so as not to shake her composure. “You could hear a pin drop,” she said.
From Pain to Purpose
Following her recovery, Sally has used her platform to raise awareness. She is now a patron of Prevent Breast Cancer, a Manchester-based charity focused on early prediction and prevention. Her experience continues to inspire viewers who lived through that storyline with her and saw her battle mirrored both on and off-screen.
Fans Remember the Impact
When the podcast clip resurfaced online, fans were quick to share their admiration. One viewer wrote: “This was such a significant scene, it’s still as incredibly emotional as it was then.” Another added: “Ali and Sally are such staples of Corrie and this storyline touched me and so many.”
