“This Christmas, we’re looking past, present, and future,” Wadey told RadioTimes.com. “We’ve got a lot of stuff that we’re very excited to share with the audience.”
Zoe Slater’s Explosive Return
One of the season’s biggest twists is the return of Zoe Slater after two decades away. Long-time viewers will remember the jaw-dropping 2001 reveal when Kat told Zoe she was her mother — a moment cemented as one of the most iconic in soap history.
Their long-awaited reunion took place in the same spot where that original bombshell was dropped, offering fans a wave of nostalgia. But it wasn’t the happy ending Kat had dreamed of. Zoe insisted she couldn’t stay in Walford and stormed out of the Queen Vic, leaving Kat devastated.
A Gunshot on the Square
As Kat chased Zoe through the Square, another storyline collided with devastating results. A tense face-off between Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) and Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) over a planted gun spiralled out of control.

“Zoe and Kat’s relationship is complicated. There are 20 years there for them to try and recover and get to know each other,” he said. “Kat’s been expecting one thing when Zoe came back, but meeting your adult daughter is more complicated. Zoe has a lot of secrets that she’s going to bring into the Square.”
With Max involved and Zoe’s health hanging in the balance, the Slaters are heading straight into an emotional storm.

Long-time cast member Rudolph Walker (Patrick Trueman) praised the show’s new direction under Wadey, telling Best of British magazine:
“Ben is great. He’s very positive about the future of EastEnders. I think we’re going to see things we’ve never seen on television before. Or if we did, it hasn’t been highlighted. I have very high hopes.”
