EastEnders Legend Ross Kemp Announces the Death of His Father in Heartbreaking Post
EastEnders legend Ross Kemp has shared the devastating news that his beloved father, John Kemp, has passed away at the age of 88.
A Heartfelt Tribute
The 61-year-old actor and documentary filmmaker posted a moving message on social media, describing his father as his “hero and role model.” Alongside a black-and-white photo of John in military uniform, Ross wrote:
“John Kemp 1937–2025.
Served his country, served his community, served his family.
My hero. Love you always, Dad.”
He added in another touching post: “Burying my Dad tomorrow. My hero, my role model and a great dancer!”

Ross has often spoken about the influence of his family and their proud history of service. His father’s passing comes years after he explored his ancestry on BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are?, where he uncovered remarkable stories from both sides of his family tree.
In the episode, Ross learned about his maternal great-grandfather Arthur “Pop” Chalmers, a sailor known for his strength and humour, and his paternal ancestor Jeremiah Whall, who joined the Royal Marines at just 13.
Whall served during the Napoleonic Wars, famously drumming semaphore messages across battlefields and helping to capture the island of Martinique from French forces in 1809.
Reflecting on his family history, Ross once said: “Both Pop and Jeremiah were men who didn’t like to sit still for too long — maybe I get a bit of that from them.”
