EastEnders Star Matthew Morrison Opens Up About Felix Baker Exit — and Whether He’ll Return to Walford
EastEnders favourite Matthew Morrison has opened up about his dramatic exit from Albert Square — and revealed whether fans might one day see Felix Baker back in Walford.
Felix — who broke new ground as EastEnders’ first regular drag queen character under his glamorous alter ego Tara Misu — left the Square earlier this year, heading for a fresh start in Spain with Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris). His departure came after learning the horrific truth about his cousin Keanu Taylor’s death, marking an emotional end to his story.
But for Morrison, the door isn’t closed on a potential comeback.
“I’d Always Consider Going Back”
Speaking exclusively on Soap Scoop, Inside Soap’s weekly podcast, Morrison reflected fondly on his two-year stint on the BBC soap.
“I’m glad that he wasn’t killed off. It’s always nice to keep the door open,” he shared. “It’s been the privilege of my life to play that role, and I would always consider going back. It’s a lovely place and it’s like a big family.”
He added warmly:
“It’s a gorgeous place and it will forever hold a place in my heart. If they ever were to ask me to come back again — I don’t know how they would do it, but I’d seriously consider it.”
Felix’s Groundbreaking Storyline
Introduced in 2022, Felix quickly became a fan-favourite for his humour, warmth, and boundary-breaking representation. Through Tara Misu, he brought vibrant drag culture to the heart of Walford — earning praise for the show’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
Felix’s romantic storyline with Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) also gained attention, though their relationship ultimately imploded after Keanu’s death was revealed — a tragedy caused by Johnny’s mother, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright).
“I think they could have gone the distance if his mother didn’t kill my cousin,” Morrison joked. “That’s a slight problem! But I would have liked it to work out — they could have been a really nice couple. I really enjoyed working with Charlie; he’s such a giving actor and such a nice person to be around.”

What’s Next for Matthew Morrison
Since leaving EastEnders, Morrison has been flexing his dramatic muscles in the theatre world. He’s currently starring as Christopher in Blue/Orange, playing opposite former Coronation Street star John Michie, best known as villain Karl Munro.
The production runs at Greenwich Theatre until October 25, and Morrison says the role has been a welcome challenge.
“It’s a massive departure from Felix, and I like that,” he said. “I was worried I might be pigeonholed into a certain type of character. So for this to be my first job out of EastEnders is a blessing. Christopher is worlds away from Felix — I’m still discovering new layers to him.”
Could Felix Return?
With EastEnders recently confirming several surprise comebacks ahead of its Christmas episodes, fans are hopeful that Felix and Tara Misu could once again light up the Square.
Given that the character wasn’t killed off, a return remains entirely possible — and judging by Morrison’s enthusiasm, it’s something he’d jump at if the timing was right.
“Never say never,” he teased.
