EastEnders Star Micah Balfour to Exit Soap After Just 18 Months as Junior Knight
EastEnders is saying goodbye to another member of the Knight family, as actor Micah Balfour is set to leave the BBC soap later this year after just 18 months on screen.
Junior Knight’s Time in Walford Comes to an End
Micah, 47, joined EastEnders in May 2024 as Junior Knight, the estranged son of George Knight (Colin Salmon). His arrival brought fresh tension and scandal to Albert Square as long-buried family secrets came to light.
Now, according to reports, Micah is “gutted” that bosses have decided to axe his character, ending his Walford chapter earlier than expected.
A BBC spokesperson confirmed the news, saying: “We can confirm Micah will be leaving EastEnders later this year. We wish him all the best for the future.”
Junior’s Storyline: Betrayal, Secrets, and Scandal
Since his debut, Junior quickly became one of Walford’s most complicated men. The businessman’s time on the Square was filled with infidelity and tension, most notably his affair with his former stepmother, Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) — a twist that left viewers stunned and fractured the Knight family further.
Junior’s other major storylines explored his strained relationship with George, his attempts to rebuild his life, and his recurring struggles with loyalty and temptation.
Although his turbulent marriage to Monique collapsed under the weight of his affairs, Junior often showed flashes of remorse, making him one of the soap’s more morally complex new additions.
Micah’s Career Beyond the Square
Before arriving in Walford, Micah was well-known for his roles in The Bill (as PC Benjamin Gayle) from 2007 to 2010, and as Dr Jermaine Bailey on Emmerdale between 2015 and 2016.
Upon his EastEnders casting, former executive producer Chris Clenshaw praised the actor’s talent, saying: “Although Junior has been referenced since the Knights arrived in the Square, the audience knows very little about George’s son and the circumstances behind their estrangement. Junior arrives in Walford following an unlikely meeting with his dad and is quickly thrust into the heart of the drama.”
Another Knight Family Departure
Micah’s departure comes hot on the heels of news that Strictly Come Dancing star Molly Rainford, who plays Junior’s half-sister Anna Knight, will also be leaving the soap later this year.
Anna’s biggest storylines have included her shocking spiking ordeal, the revelation that she is Cindy Beale’s secret daughter, and her complicated love triangle with Bobby Beale and Freddie Slater.
The Knight family, introduced in 2023 with George, Anna, Gina (Francesca Henry), and Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), revitalised The Queen Vic storyline. However, with multiple exits looming, it seems big changes are coming to the family’s future on the Square.
