EastEnders Stuns Fans as Phil and Kat Are Recast for a Very Special Reason
EastEnders is swapping out two of its most iconic faces — but only for one night, and for a very heartwarming cause. Long-time favourites Phil Mitchell and Kat Slater will temporarily be played by child actors as part of a brand-new Children in Need sketch airing this evening.
A Fresh Look for Walford Legends
Since 1990, Steve McFadden has embodied Phil Mitchell, becoming one of the most recognisable faces in British television. His turbulent journey, from the legendary Who Shot Phil? storyline to this year’s National Television Award win, has cemented Phil as an EastEnders icon.
Similarly, Jessie Wallace’s portrayal of Kat Slater has defined two decades of unforgettable Walford drama, including the famous “You ain’t my mother!” moment with Zoe.
But for Children in Need, their boots will be filled — or at least miniature versions of them will be — by up-and-coming young actors.
Lenny Rush Takes Over the BBC
At the heart of the sketch is 16-year-old Children in Need presenter Lenny Rush, who is granted magical control over BBC television for one night only. With Pudsey Bear by his side, Lenny decides Walford needs a shake-up, and recasts the Square’s biggest players with kids.
Audiences can expect young versions of:
-
Phil Mitchell
-
Kat Slater
-
Billy Mitchell
EastEnders regulars Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) and Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) will also appear, watching the chaos unfold inside the Queen Vic.

Drama Breaks Out in the Vic — Of Course
In true EastEnders style, things escalate quickly. The child-led cast navigates a heated mystery involving misplaced belongings, rising tempers, and plenty of cheeky nods to classic Walford behaviour.
The end result promises to be a hilarious, affectionate send-up of the soap, while celebrating the spirit of Children in Need.
A Tradition of Unmissable Pudsey Specials
EastEnders has a long history of delivering standout Children in Need sketches — from Disney medleys to musical mash-ups and even an iconic Coronation Street crossover.
Fans will remember Kat’s memorable appearance in the East Street mash-up, where she kicked out Michelle Connor for flirting with Alfie before discovering that Liz McDonald was her mother.
Tonight’s child-cast twist looks set to join the list of beloved Walford specials.
