Emmerdale stars admitted it’s a “pleasure” working in the Dales as they helped celebrate the 53rd birthday.

On October 16 1972, Emmerdale aired their first episode on ITV. However, it was known as Emmerdale Farm until 1989 when the soap shifted from a rural farming drama to a more village-focused and dramatic soap opera.

This coincided with a new production team and the arrival of the Tate family.

Over the last 53 years, Emmerdale has had its fair share of drama and just because the Yorkshire-based soap has been going for just over half a decade, its showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Viewers will be on the edge of their seats as the two characters navigate harrowing challenges that will leave a lasting impact.

This exciting news comes as the ITV soap announced three other special episodes that will air in the autumn.

April and Marlon’s relationship, Robert’s prison past, and Bear Wolf’s whereabouts will all be under the microscope in this first for the Yorkshire-based soap.

Taking to their official Instagram account, Emmerdale penned: “Happy Birthday to us! What is your favourite Emmerdale moment?”

In the video, stars Olivia Bromley and Ned Porteous wished the soap well on their special day.

Ned said: “Happy Birthday Emmerdale, it’s your 53rd birthday! What a birthday, what a year, what a show. What a pleasure it is to be a part of you.”

Olivia added: “I agree with everything he says… Happy birthday Emmerdale!”

Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
