Emmerdale Exit Confirmed: Macaulay Cooper Bows Out After Controversial Storyline
A Villain’s Final Chapter
Emmerdale fans are preparing to say goodbye to one of the soap’s most talked-about characters. Actor Macaulay Cooper has officially confirmed his departure from the ITV series, bringing an end to his role as manipulative blackmailer Mike. The news comes months after the character’s disturbing storyline with Vinny Dingle (played by Bradley Johnson) sparked a major Ofcom complaint from outraged viewers.
“It’s a Wrap!” – Cooper Confirms His Departure
The actor announced the news on social media with an emotional post, sharing photos from the Emmerdale set, including snapshots with co-stars Lisa Riley, Shebz Miah, and Bradley Johnson. Alongside the images, he wrote: “That’s a wrap! After an unforgettable journey, all of my Emmerdale episodes have now aired. I feel incredibly grateful for this experience, and this has been one of my favourite jobs to date.”
Cooper expressed his gratitude to fans, adding: “Huge thanks to everyone who tuned in and sent such kind messages—your support has meant the world to me!” He reflected on the challenges of portraying such a dark character, saying that while playing Mike was tough, it was an important opportunity to shed light on real-life issues of manipulation and abuse.
Tributes From Co-Stars
Cooper didn’t leave without heartfelt goodbyes. He thanked the Emmerdale cast and crew for their warmth and teamwork, calling them “an incredible family.” He also gave a special mention to Bradley Johnson, who played his on-screen victim: “You absolutely smashed this difficult storyline as Vinny. It’s been a pleasure working with you.”
His girlfriend Abbie Jones also earned a sweet mention for helping him “prep, film, and not give up” during the demanding audition process.

Viewers were equally supportive, acknowledging how difficult yet vital the storyline was. One fan wrote, “An awful storyline but so necessary.
