Emmerdale Legend Kelvin Fletcher Finally Addresses Andy Sugden Return Rumours

After months of online whispers, Emmerdale veteran Kelvin Fletcher has finally spoken out about the constant speculation surrounding a possible return as Andy Sugden. The actor, who starred in over 2,000 episodes during his two decades on the ITV soap, appeared on This Morning to discuss his latest project — but talk quickly turned to the Dales.

“There Are Always Those Rumours”

Kelvin, now best known for Fletchers’ Family Farm, joined hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary to chat about the show’s new series. But Alison couldn’t resist asking the question every Emmerdale fan has been wondering: “There are rumours that your character might be coming back — I don’t know if it’s true?”

With a knowing smile, Kelvin replied, “There always seems to be those rumours.” He praised Emmerdale’s current form, calling it “fantastic” and admitting he now enjoys watching as a fan rather than a cast member.

“It’s always different now to watch the show that I was in for 20 years,” he added.Emmerdale's Andy Sugden, Kelvin Fletcher, quits soap after 20 years, from murder to domestic violence his most dramatic moments - The Mirror

A Fond Farewell, But No Return

Sadly for long-time viewers, Kelvin made it clear that an Andy Sugden comeback is unlikely. “I had some amazing memories there,” he said, reflecting on his time on set. “But I think I’d be too busy. I don’t think I can stand that two-hour commute, first and foremost.”

His light-hearted response dashed hopes of Andy’s dramatic return to the village — though fans continue to speculate how the character could re-enter future storylines."Emmerdale's in a fantastic place at the minute."

The Sugden Saga Continues

Even without Andy, the Sugden family remains central to Emmerdale’s ongoing drama. Robert Sugden, Andy’s adoptive brother, is hiding a major secret from Aaron Dingle. In a shocking twist, it’s been revealed that Robert secretly married a man named Kev while in prison.

According to insiders, things take a dramatic turn when Aaron unexpectedly catches Robert and Kev sharing a kiss in the village. “Robert’s mortified when Aaron spots him and Kev together,” a show source teased. “It was only a matter of time with both guys living in the same place.”

A Season of Special Episodes

Robert’s storyline will feature in one of three upcoming Emmerdale standalone episodes this autumn. The specials will also focus on April Windsor’s grooming nightmare and Bear Wolf’s emotional journey. Robert’s episode is expected to give fans a rare glimpse into his time behind bars following the death of Lee Posner, shedding light on how prison life changed him.
