Emmerdale Newcomer Appears to Confirm Dying Character’s True Fate
Kev’s Devastating Revelation
Emmerdale newcomer Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) has shaken the village to its core with his shocking confession that he’s dying. Recently, viewers watched as Kev revealed to his secret husband Robert Sugden that he only had six months to live, leaving fans torn over whether to believe him.
Kev claimed to have accepted his terminal condition and expressed a desire to spend his remaining time with Robert by his side. Yet speculation quickly spread among viewers, with many wondering if he was manipulating Robert for sympathy—or hiding an even darker motive.
Chris Coghill Confirms Kev’s Fate
Now, actor Chris Coghill appears to have set the record straight. Speaking to The Mirror, Chris revealed that producers told him from the start that Kev’s storyline would end in tragedy.
“When I was offered it and I was told he dies, I thought, I like Emmerdale and I’d like to be around for a bit,” he explained. “But when I found out what the character was and that they weren’t meeting anybody else, I thought—actually, this sounds like a right laugh.”
His comments confirm that Kev really is dying, despite fan theories suggesting otherwise. It also means Robert’s emotional turmoil—and the fallout with Aaron Dingle—is only just beginning.

Robert’s Double Life Exposed
Upcoming episodes promise to unravel Robert’s secret marriage and expose the tangled web of lies he’s spun between Kev and Aaron. With Aaron believing he and Robert are finally rebuilding their life together, Kev’s arrival will blow that illusion apart.
As Robert’s hidden past collides with his present, the storyline will test loyalties, love, and morality in ways that could permanently fracture relationships within the Dingle family.
Kev’s Connections and Conflict
Despite the looming drama, Chris hinted that Kev’s time in the village won’t be all chaos. He teased a softer side to the character, especially in scenes opposite Victoria Sugden:
“There’s quite a nice little thing underlying with Victoria,” he shared. “She sees a vulnerability in him and there’s some quite sweet stuff that happens.”
However, Kev’s tension with Aaron will dominate much of the drama ahead. “We don’t like each other,” Chris admitted bluntly. “There’s a lot of tension between them, but I love working with Danny [Miller].”
He also joked about his fictional clashes with the Dingle clan: “Aaron’s a Dingle, but I wouldn’t like to have a fight with Cain. Charity, Chas—they get involved too, but a lot of it centres around the three of us.”

Off-Screen Camaraderie
While their on-screen rivalry grows, Chris revealed that off-camera he shares an easy friendship with co-stars Ryan Hawley (Robert) and Danny Miller (Aaron). “We share a dressing room upstairs and it’s hilarious,” he said. Ryan added, “We all get on really well, same sense of humour—it’s a good laugh.”
That real-life bond is sure to fuel the emotional intensity of one of Emmerdale’s most talked-about storylines of the year.
