Emmerdale Star Bradley Riches Reflects on Soap Milestone: “Lewis Has Been Through a Lot”

Emmerdale’s Bradley Riches has marked a major moment in his soap journey, celebrating four months since his debut as Lewis Barton. The actor admitted that his on-screen alter ego has already faced huge storylines — and hinted there’s much more to come.

A Groundbreaking Arrival in the Dales

Bradley joined the ITV soap earlier this year as Lewis Barton, Emmerdale’s first neurodivergent character. His arrival came with powerful ties to the past.

Lewis wrote to Moira Dingle seeking answers about his late mother Emma Barton. What he didn’t expect was to uncover the darkest truth — that Moira had played a part in Emma’s death.

The shocking discovery reshaped Lewis’s journey in the village and immediately connected him to one of Emmerdale’s most infamous storylines.

Family Secrets and New Bonds

Since his debut, Lewis has been busy forging new connections. He’s grown close to Nicola King while helping her in the café, and their friendship has quickly become a highlight for fans.

But his family drama is never far away. Lewis pieced together that Moira was behind his mother’s death, while his half-brother Adam Barton went on the run years ago to protect her. These tangled family ties continue to weigh heavily on him.

A Whirlwind Four Months

Taking to Instagram, Bradley reflected on everything Lewis has endured in just four months:

  • Meeting his half-brother

  • Discovering the truth about Emma’s death

  • Losing his cannabis stash

  • Starting work in the café

  • Buying shares in the business

He summed it up perfectly: “Lewis has been through a LOT.”

Recognition and Representation

Bradley’s performance hasn’t gone unnoticed. Just two months after arriving in the Dales, he was nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2025 National Television Awards.

The actor has also spoken openly about the importance of representation on screen. He revealed that the Emmerdale team worked closely with him to ensure Lewis’s dialogue reflected his own preferred language.

Bradley explained: “I don’t say ‘I have autism’ because it feels like an extension — I say ‘I’m autistic’ because it is part of me. Little lines like that were changed, and they were very open to it.”

What’s Next for Lewis Barton?

With so much drama already under his belt, fans are eager to see what’s next for Lewis. Bradley teased that more twists are on the horizon, promising the character’s journey is far from over.

As he put it: “But what’s to come…”

Emmerdale viewers will be watching closely as Lewis continues to make his mark on the village — and Bradley cements himself as one of the soap’s most exciting new talents.
