Emmerdale Star Lisa Riley Reveals the Chaos and Chemistry of Working with On-Screen Husband Dominic Brunt

Emmerdale legend Lisa Riley has shared a candid look at the hilarious highs and unpredictable chaos of filming alongside her on-screen husband, Dominic Brunt. The pair, who play beloved couple Mandy and Paddy Dingle, are known for their heartwarming chemistry — but behind the scenes, things don’t always go to plan.

“We Just Keep Going!” – Lisa on On-Set Mishaps

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star in collaboration with Betway, Lisa opened up about what it’s really like working with Dominic, calling him her “best friend in the whole world.”

“Working with my husband in character is such a joy,” she said. “But things can go wrong because of the clumsiness of the scene — we just keep going! If you know your lines so well, you can improvise. That’s what makes it feel real.”

Lisa revealed that she and Dom’s long friendship and trust allow them to roll with mistakes rather than break character. “Especially when you’re doing comedy, it’s brilliant,” she added. “We just carry on as if it’s part of the moment.”Emmerdale

The “Too Much Skin” Scene That Had Everyone Laughing

Even seasoned soap stars have moments that don’t make it past the edit. Lisa recalled a recent steamy scene that went hilariously off track.

“We had to stop filming the other week because we’re on at a certain time of night, so you can only show so much skin,” she laughed. “Once, after a time of passion with Paddy, I had to run downstairs — but there was too much skin showing, so they shouted ‘cut, let’s go again!’”

The actress admitted it’s all part of the fun of working in a family-friendly soap, where timing, lighting, and modesty can be as much of a challenge as remembering lines.Emmerdale star Lisa Riley declares love for on-screen husband in 'special' birthday tribute - Manchester Evening News

A Partnership Built on Trust and Talent

While Lisa and Dominic often deliver Emmerdale’s funniest moments, she says their bond also shines through in emotional storylines. “We trust each other completely. Dom is the best of the best,” Lisa said proudly.

The duo have recently filmed scenes leading into Christmas, and Lisa hinted that fans can expect a mix of laughter and heartache. “It’s lovely to do the comedy, but the high-end drama is what really tests us as actors,” she explained. “As a couple, Mandy and Paddy represent the loyalty of the village. People lean on them, and we love exploring that balance of humour and pain.”Lisa

Comedy, Drama, and the Dingle Spirit

For Lisa, playing Mandy Dingle isn’t just a role — it’s a joy. The actress says she relishes every chance to show new sides of the much-loved character. “People see us as the comedy couple, but we enjoy the drama too. It’s great for us as performers.”

With Emmerdale heading into a dramatic festive season, Mandy and Paddy’s warmth, resilience, and undeniable chemistry promise to deliver even more moments that fans will love — both on screen and, as Lisa proves, behind the scenes too.
