Emmerdale Star Nicola Wheeler Addresses Missing Characters in Nicola’s Big Story

Nicola Wheeler Speaks Out on Emmerdale Mystery

Emmerdale star Nicola Wheeler has finally addressed one of the soap’s recent fan mysteries — the disappearance of her on-screen children, Angelica and Elliot King, from current storylines.

Appearing on ITV’s This Morning on Wednesday (October 16), the actress — who plays fan-favourite Nicola King — reflected on her long-running role and the recent hard-hitting plot involving Nicola’s adopted son Carl Holliday (Charlie Munro Joyce).

While discussing her on-screen family, Wheeler jokingly pointed out that Angelica and Elliot have barely been seen in the village lately.

“The kids, of course — you don’t see the kids,” she laughed. “Is it Tracy Barlow who just went upstairs for 17 years? You can’t see them. Apart from, obviously, Charlie, who plays Carl.”

The Real Reason Behind Their Absence

Fans have noticed that Nicola and Jimmy’s younger children have largely vanished from the show, with Carl’s storyline now taking centre stage. Wheeler’s comments confirm what many viewers suspected — that while soap kids often disappear between storylines, they’re still very much part of the fictional family.

“When you’re on set, you find a certain rhythm with your co-stars and it’s really good fun,” Wheeler explained. “But the stories we tell aren’t always lighthearted.”

Nicola’s Family in Crisis

Nicola’s current Emmerdale storyline sees her family at the heart of a harrowing plot after her adopted son Carl was accused of sharing an indecent image of Clemmie Reed (Mabel Addison), Dawn Fletcher’s (Olivia Bromley) daughter.

Carl admitted to forwarding the photo after receiving it, leaving both families devastated and sparking a major police investigation.

Wheeler praised young actor Charlie Joyce, saying:

“He’s very good. When I was talking with the producer about this storyline, I had no idea that a child sending those kinds of images was actually committing a crime.”

Nicola’s Reaction — and a Twist Ahead

Discussing her character’s response to the scandal, Wheeler revealed that Nicola initially refuses to accept her son’s wrongdoing.

“She’s in denial at first,” she said. “Eventually, she does have to admit that what Carl did was horrendous and totally unfair to Clemmie — a total breach of her privacy.”

But the drama is far from over. Nicola becomes furious when she learns that the school was informed about Carl’s actions before she was — and Wheeler teased that the identity of the person who tipped off the school will come as a shock.

“It turns out to be somebody you don’t expect,” she teased.

What’s Next for the Kings?

As the fallout from Carl’s actions deepens, the King family is set for even more tension — both at home and with the Tates. With Nicola’s protective instincts in overdrive and Jimmy caught in the middle, the next few weeks promise explosive drama in the Dales.
