Emmerdale’s Doctor Surgery: A Hotbed of Crime and Chaos

The Surgery You Can’t Trust

At first glance, Brooke Cottage Surgery should be a safe haven for the residents of Emmerdale—a place for health, care, and professionalism. But the reality is anything but that. Over the years, nearly every staff member has been involved in wrongdoing, with only receptionist Claudette Anderson standing out as a voice of reason.

From affairs to murder plots, the surgery has become a center of drama rather than a hub for medical care. Let’s take a closer look at the characters who have caused chaos behind the surgery doors.

Past Staff Who Shook the Village

Jermaine Bailey – Micha Balfour’s doctor lost his job after an affair with Belle Dingle, who was just 17 at the time.

Emma Barton – Introduced as a nurse, Emma’s crimes were far from medical. She was responsible for the Hotten Bypass crash, the death of her son Finn, and the murder of James Barton, among other shocking acts.

Wendy Posner – Initially trusted as a nurse, Wendy’s dark secret came to light in 2021 when it was revealed that she wasn’t even a qualified medical professional.

Meena Jutla – Paige Sandhu’s character began as a nurse but quickly became one of the soap’s most dangerous villains, committing murder, kidnapping, torture, and false imprisonment.

Ella Forster – Arriving as Liam Cavanagh’s partner, Ella carried a chilling secret: she had killed her best friend as a child.

Manpreet Sharma – Caught in a blackmail plot, Manpreet helped Joe Tate with an illegally sourced kidney transplant, compromising her ethics to protect herself.

Liam Cavanagh – While not criminal, Liam has kept several dangerous secrets, including Wendy’s past and Manpreet’s involvement in Joe’s transplant scheme. He also engaged in an affair with Wendy at the surgery, adding scandal to scandal.

John Sugden: The Latest Surgical Villain

The current threat at the surgery is John Sugden, played by Oliver Farnworth, whose crimes have escalated to dangerous levels. John’s actions include:

  • Murdering Nate Robinson

  • Drugging Chas and Aaron Dingle

  • Causing Jacob Gallagher to suffer an allergic reaction

  • Holding Mackenzie Boyd hostage

  • Tampering with the slurry tank at Butlers Farm, endangering his nephew

John operates with a “hero complex,” orchestrating dangerous events only to save the victims and receive praise, a mindset developed from being compared to his brother Robert, who was imprisoned in 2019 for murder.

The Cliffhanger: John and Aaron

John’s manipulations reached a shocking peak when he threw himself and Aaron off a gorge, fearing that Aaron would reunite with Robert if John went to prison. Aaron remains in a coma, leaving the village on edge about what will happen next. John’s belief in his hero status may crumble if Aaron awakens and reveals the truth, exposing all of John’s crimes.
