A familiar face from Emmerdale is stepping into a brand-new spotlight. Andy Moore, known to fans as PC Mike Swirling, has revealed exciting news away from the ITV soap after more than two decades on the beat in the Yorkshire Dales.

From the Village to the Studio

Andy, whose real name is Andy Whitaker, has portrayed the much-loved village police officer since 2004, becoming a key part of Emmerdale’s history. Over the years, PC Swirling has appeared in countless major storylines, investigating everything from petty crimes to shocking murders. His calm authority and understated charm made him a fan favourite among viewers.

Now, after 21 years in uniform, Andy is swapping police work for music. The actor is set to release a brand-new album with musician Michael Reed, titled The Black and White Detective and The Technicolour Cowboy, on Friday, October 24.

A Creative Collaboration

The duo first crossed paths shortly before the Covid-19 pandemic and quickly discovered they shared not only musical chemistry but also a postcode. Living at opposite ends of the same street, Andy and Michael began writing together, eventually producing a full-length album blending moody melodies with rich storytelling.

Their 13-track collection includes songs like Out and About, Don’t You Love Me, Mr Potatohead (Woozy Psychedelia), The River, Watching the Rain, and Here. Early listeners have praised the record’s atmospheric style, with one fan commenting: “Great gothy textures and sounds, but what really struck me is your songwriting at the heart of it all.”

A Versatile Career

Outside Emmerdale, Andy’s acting résumé spans popular British television. He has appeared in The Bill, The Royal, Dream Team, and more recently Sky Peals in 2023. He even made brief appearances in Coronation Street—once as a driver in 2005 and later as a photographer five years later.
