Emmerdale’s Robert and Aaron Face a Long Road to Reunion, Star Teases
‘You Can’t Have the Whole Cake at Once’
It’s the reunion Emmerdale fans have been waiting years for — but according to star Lisa Riley, the journey back to love for Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) is far from smooth.
Speaking exclusively at the Inside Soap Awards, Lisa, who plays Mandy Dingle, revealed that while Robron fans can finally celebrate the couple’s renewed connection, patience will be key before they get their “happily ever after.”
“When you see a really good cake in the window, like a full raspberry gateau — you can’t have all the gateau at once,” she said playfully. “We’re just going to keep giving you slices, and maybe down the line, you’ll get the full cake. If we gave it all now, you’d be asking — then what?!”
Her words have only fueled speculation that the beloved pair’s rekindled relationship will face more turmoil before any possible wedding bells.
Danny Miller and Ryan Hawley on Reuniting as Robron
For fans, seeing Robert and Aaron together again after years apart has been a long-awaited payoff. Danny Miller, who’s portrayed Aaron since 2008, admitted he’d been hoping for Ryan Hawley’s return for years.
“Everybody loves him,” Danny said. “When they’re together, they’re just two worlds of different people. Aaron’s nothing like Robert in terms of his manipulative side — but when they’re together, they’re just this ball of love and genuine soulmates. That’s always been the note.”
The actor shared how naturally they fell back into rhythm after so much time away. “We work really similarly,” he said. “We enjoy the same things, and we always find moments in the script that work for us both.”
Still, he warned that things won’t be simple. “Aaron’s real love has always been Robert — but now you’ve got John, who happens to be his brother, and Kev, Robert’s husband. It’s chaos, even for a soap!”
Two Rivals and One Complicated Love Story
The road to Robron’s reunion is riddled with obstacles. Robert’s secret prison marriage to Kev (Chris Coghill) — who’s now terminally ill — has already caused heartbreak and confusion. Meanwhile, Aaron’s emotional bond with his long-lost brother John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) adds another layer of tension.
“Kev and John are still technically in the way,” Lisa Riley teased. “So as much as fans might want the fairytale ending, there’s still a lot of story to tell — and it’s going to be explosive.”
A Love Story Worth Waiting For
Despite the obstacles, both actors remain hopeful that Robron’s connection will endure. “We never get told long-term plans,” Danny admitted, “but whatever happens, the writers have been brilliant at keeping us on our toes.”
As Lisa put it — fans might not get the whole cake just yet, but the first few slices are already sweet enough to savour.
