Emmerdale’s Ryan Hawley Teases Deadly Christmas Storyline: “There’s a Threat to Life”
Emmerdale star Ryan Hawley has dropped a chilling tease about the soap’s upcoming Christmas episodes, revealing that the festive season in the Dales will bring panic, danger, and possibly death.
The actor, who plays fan favourite Robert Sugden, confirmed that a “threat to life” looms over the village as the year draws to a close — hinting that the show’s most beloved characters could face a devastating fate.

A Dangerous Christmas Ahead
Speaking to Inside Soap, Ryan revealed that Emmerdale’s Christmas storylines will tie directly into the high-stakes Coronation Street crossover, “Corriedale,” airing early in the new year.
“It’s not a very easy time for Aaron and Robert this December,” Ryan explained. “The events leading up to Christmas and New Year, into the Corriedale special, are very high stakes.”
While staying tight-lipped on who’s in danger, the actor admitted that Robert’s mental state spirals into panic as the festive period unfolds.
“Robert’s state of mind around Christmas is panic, very anxious. There’s a threat to life this Christmas.”

Robron at Risk?
The comment immediately set off alarm bells for fans of Robron — the iconic pairing of Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller). With Robert now reunited with husband Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) after his prison ordeal, viewers fear that tragedy could strike just as he begins to rebuild his life.
Given that the Corriedale crossover promises “shocking” twists and a major death, speculation is mounting that Aaron, Robert, or Kev could be caught in the line of fire.
Secrets from Robert’s Prison Past
Ahead of Christmas, a special flashback episode will delve into Robert’s time behind bars, finally revealing what really happened while he was locked up. Ryan and co-star Chris Coghill teased that the episode will contain “unexpected twists” that could change everything fans thought they knew.
“There’s one particularly very nice little twist that neither of us knew about until I read the script,” Ryan revealed. “It’s massively pivotal. As far as we know, no one finds out about it — but it sets things up for the future.”
Chris added,
“It’s leading to something very dramatic. We can’t say what, but it’s big.”

Who Will Survive the Dales’ Darkest Christmas?
With producer Iain MacLeod hinting that a “major character sacrifice” will coincide with the Corriedale crossover, fans are bracing for heartbreak. Whether it’s Robert, Aaron, or another villager caught in the chaos, the warning signs are clear — this festive season, not everyone will make it out alive.
