Home and Away Finale Slammed by Fans Over “Unrealistic” Train Disaster

A Derailment That Derailed Expectations

Channel 7 promised “the greatest season final there’s ever been”—but Home and Away’s explosive finale left many fans fuming instead of stunned. The extended hour-long episode featured a dramatic train derailment in a narrow tunnel, with core Summer Bay characters aboard.

The trip to Broken Hill’s Off The Rails music festival quickly turned into a nightmare when the train struck three children’s bicycles left on the tracks, flipping the carriage and leaving passengers unconscious.

The cliffhanger ending confirmed one character won’t return in 2026. But while the stakes were high, many viewers weren’t buying it.

Home and Away fans call out 'unrealistic' detail in finale: 'Would never happen'

“A Bike? Seriously?”

The biggest complaint was simple: the physics didn’t add up. Fans flooded social media with confusion and frustration over the crash setup.

“A bike causing a derailment in a tunnel? That would never happen,” one fan wrote.
“A train can hit a car and keep going, but a pushbike derails it?” another added.

Many questioned how the train could flip onto its side in such a tight tunnel. One pointed out there wouldn’t be enough space for a full roll; another added that if the driver had braked, the train would likely just stop or lean—not crash so violently.

Even those with rail industry knowledge chimed in, calling the scenario “laughably impossible.”The train flipped after making impact with bicycles left on the tracks. Photos: Channel 7

“The Worst Finale Ever”?

On top of the physics debate, fans also criticized the finale’s pacing and payoff. Despite weeks of promos promising “the most shocking disaster in 38 years,” many found the episode underwhelming.

“All the hype and build-up, and it was just… boring,” one viewer said.
“Watching paint dry would have been more entertaining,” joked another.

Others branded it “pathetic,” “anti-climactic,” and “the worst season final ever.”Viewers described the finale as ‘boring’ and ‘anti-climactic’. Photo: Channel 7

A New Year, a New Hope?

Despite the backlash, the show is gearing up for a major 2026 return. Home and Away comes back January 19, with the long-anticipated return of fan favourites Darryl ‘Brax’ Braxton and Erica ‘Ricky’ Sharpe.

The special event, filmed in Western Australia, promises “high-stakes drama” and “emotional payoffs”—and perhaps, a chance to win back disappointed fans.
