Home and Away Legend Lynne McGranger and Her Lookalike Daughter Clancy
After more than three decades in Summer Bay, Lynne McGranger has stepped back from her iconic role as Irene Roberts, closing a chapter on one of Home and Away’s longest-running and most beloved characters. But while fans reflect on her 33-year legacy, many are also curious about Lynne’s life off-screen — especially her close bond with her daughter, Clancy.
Irene’s Bittersweet Exit
Earlier this year, Lynne, 72, announced her departure from the soap that made her a household name. Irene’s final scenes aired in August, with the much-loved matriarch being diagnosed with dementia.
In a moving farewell, Irene gathered with Alf Stewart (Ray Meagher), Leah Patterson (Ada Nicodemou), Marilyn Chambers (Emily Symons), and Roo Stewart (Georgie Parker) for a goodbye party. Later, in a poignant moment, she handed John Palmer (Shane Withington) a plane ticket to Paris, telling him: “It’s not goodbye, it’s au revoir.”
Fans flooded social media with tributes, honouring both Irene and Lynne’s immense contribution to Home and Away.
Clancy: Lynne’s Lookalike Daughter
Away from the cameras, Lynne has shared a life with her partner, Paul, and their daughter Clancy, who is now 34. Clancy was just 20 months old when Lynne first joined the soap for what was meant to be a three-month role — a “short stint” that turned into a career-defining 33 years.
Clancy even had her own brush with Summer Bay fame. As a child, she appeared as an extra on the show, working in the diner and surf club, and jokingly recalled that she was eventually “promoted” to waitress.
A Strong Mother-Daughter Bond
The bond between Lynne and Clancy is unbreakable. Speaking to The Australian Women’s Weekly, Clancy praised her mother as a role model who showed her that women can be the main breadwinners.
“Mum was the main breadwinner and it’s been cool because I’ve been raised with the belief that it doesn’t have to be that way where the woman stays at home and men go to work,” Clancy explained. “I’ve got two awesome role models.”
Despite wishing her mum could slow down, Clancy also supports Lynne’s ambitions to continue performing: “I’d love for her to retire, but there’s no way that she’s going to! She wants to go and perform more and do stage shows, and if that makes her happy, I want her to 100 per cent go and do that. But also, just enjoy life.”
What’s Next for Lynne?
Though she has stepped away from Home and Away, Lynne isn’t ready to quit acting. She has already hinted at returning to her theatre roots and taking on stage roles — something she loved before her soap career began.
Her Gold Logie win for Most Popular Personality on Australian TV earlier this year was a fitting tribute to her extraordinary run, and now, she enters a new era where she can embrace both performance and family life.
